That's coming up on our menu, along with that Mexican stuffed spaghetti squash. I love fall cuisine.

The thing about this phrase is that there's truth to it, but it's now being addressed to the wrong economic group. It's not a message to help poor feel better about being poor. It's directed to the already well-off who think having more money will be better.

I knew after my very first session of 2e D&D that I wanted to be a DM eventually. I've been "having fun" ever since.

What if I just finished a really good book last evening (The Grapes of Wrath) and today I'm still processing what I read?

I just realized (after checking, of course) that there is no unicorn artwork in any B/X or BECMI rulebook.

A) it's cheaper to make, so greater profits and happier shareholders (the American Way). B) if you're raised on it, you don't know any different and may even grow to actively *dislike* real maple syrup.

First time someone asked me if I wanted to play cornhole, my reaction was "EXCUSE ME?!" It should be renamed something better, like "nut sack".

I loved Megamania, but never got great at it. Kaboom is an accomplishment! I think I got the points on Seaquest, Stampede and Laser Blast. Activision was so good.

I never sent away for any of the patches, but I earned several. I did buy one for Chopper Command and gave it to my dad for Christmas one year. He and I both ran up the score to 999999.

One example is that OSE has an optional ascending armor class rather than the B/X descending AC and Thac0. The math works out the same but it's a simpler model. OSE also has more character classes, some based on Forgotten Realms, like Drow or Svirfneblin. But the core rules are B/X.

I dabble in history and occasionally come up with ideas that I later find out some other historian already came up with. But a history professor told me that's a good thing. It means I'm thinking like a real historian. So if you're coming up with already published ideas, you're on the right track.

The premise is that the players seek shelter, food and water in a desert sandstorm and discover the top of a step pyramid and city buried in the sand. The pyramid is the beginning of the dungeon.

Module B4 - The Lost City is a great one. It has warring factions, a bizarre cult, ancient lost history & lore to discover, treasures, traps, puzzles. Lots of RP opportunities with the 3 factions w/ a chance to ally with one while angering others & a chance to unite them against a common foe. 1/2

Modules need not have a story arc either. Many classic modules provide a setting, NPCs, maps and current/potential conflicts, but no plot or story arc. The DM provides enough information for players to take action and the plot is just what happens.

I'm a U2 fan, so I welcomed the music. But it was botched by Apple. Should have been easy to delete. But my, oh my, the things happening on our devices now, with and without our consent. I wonder how many of those people angry about the U2 iTunes incident are as raged about what's done now.

Oh, now you even more reason to read about Mystara. There are so many different elf cultures. My favorite are the Belcadiz elves of Glantri. Spanish elves, you say? Mystara has them.

TSR released a line of 14 gazetteers in the 80s and early 90s that cover most of it. The BECMI rulebooks cover some especially Immortal player rules, and then there was the Wrath of the Immortals boxed set. The Vaults of Pandius website has a lot of information too.
020
Doolin Digital @doolin-digital.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Immortals can be forgotten and lost. I have a player whose character is a cleric that doesn't know which Immortal her power is from and she's collecting information on them like a Pokedex.
120
Doolin Digital @doolin-digital.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
I've thought more about this. Isolated cultures may not be aware there are Immortals other than their own and deny their existence. Nationalalist cultures may see the patron Immortals of others as antitheses. Glantrians actually outlaw clerics, preferring to venerate The Rad (a magical essence).

Doolin Digital @doolin-digital.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
One must have an Immortal sponsor as part of the ascension. Presumably that's when you learn the rules. They *can* meddle too much and there's some Mystara lore based on such events. Other Immortals will enforce it. The I in BECMI has rules for *playing* as an Immortal, but I dont know it as well.
020
Doolin Digital @doolin-digital.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
But Immortals are not supposed to meddle in mortal affairs, other than through their clerics and maybe dreams/visons. They aren't all powerful or all knowing. The Master rules in BECMI even allow for players to ascend; a difficult and long proces. Lots of adventure. It's a fascinating approach.
120
Doolin Digital @doolin-digital.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
I was also going to mention Mystara. There technically aren't any atheists, but you can opt to not worship or venerate any Immortal. You can also decide that your Immortal and ways are superior to all others and demand exclusivity (like real life monolatry). 1/2

As a GM I actually love reaction rolls and morale checks. Sure, I can just roleplay the monsters and decide they're hostile, or fleeing, but I also like the occasional surprise. Like that one enemy that just won't back down even in the face of certain death. It has resulted in delightful surprises.

I'll also recommend continuing to explore the command line. It really isn't difficult, it's just a matter of practice and memorizing commands. Many of them become muscle memory.

I love that aesthetic so much. I mentioned it in another thread but here's the PiDP-1 finally finished and fully operational.
PiDP1, a replica of the DEC PDP-1. A blue vintage style computer panel with flashing white LEDs and rows of toggle switches.

Isn't it beautiful? I've added another member to the vintage computer replica family. The PiDP-1 now joins the 10 and 11. Man, computers back then had style.
A small replica of a DEC PDP-1 console panel with lots of switches and LEDs indicating the contents of registers, memory and the CPU instruction among others.
