Don't see any Mickey Rooney pics playing but Judy Garland (& Gene Kelly) in then-husband Vincente Minelli's THE PIRATE (Embassy).

Claudette Colbert getting name above the title treatment instead of Henry Fonda in John Ford's DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK (Victory). Two notable film noirs screening, THE BIG CLOCK (45th Street) and KEY LARGO (Green Lake) with Bogey & Bacall.

To be quite honest, I haven't seen any of the film in today's big ads, but it seems to me they missed a trick not pairing CONGO (Telenews) with Korda's THE JUNGLE BOOK (Granada), starring Sabu. Abbott & Costello's pre-WWII BUCK PRIVATES (Roxy) getting a post-WWII revival.

#ThenShowing 15 Oct 1948, Seattle Times THE LOST ONE, aka LA TRAVIATA, at the "new" Uptown—the new referring to the theater's re-brand as Seattle's foreign film cinema. See Hayworth & Ford together again in THE LOVES OF CARMEN (Paramount), this time in Technicolor.

John Ford won his first directing Oscar for THE INFORMER (Beacon, Roycroft) playing w/ Mae West's GOIN' TO TOWN. And, of course, there's Shirley Temple in OUR LITTLE GIRL (Embassy).

As much as I love Raymond Burr as Perry Mason, I hate Warren William playing the same role, even in THE CASE OF THE CURIOUS BRIDE—first on-screen pairing of Errol Flynn and director Michael Curtiz tho.

Paul Robeson, name above the title, SANDERS OF THE RIVER (Coliseum). Three cheers for Claudette Colbert, SHE MARRIED HER BOSS (Liberty). George Brent in SPECIAL AGENT (Blue Mouse) vs Jimmy Cagney in G MEN (Uptown).

#ThenShowing 14 Oct 1935, Seattle Times Fun fact: CHINATOWN SQUAD (Capitol) was part of Screen Gems SHOCK! TV package that popularized the Universal Monsters—one of these things is not like the others. See the future w/ BROADWAY MELODY OF 1936 (Liberty); right on time, GOLD DIGGERS OF 1935 (Grand).

A close second would be, Jimmy Stewart in THE MAN FROM LARAMIE + THE WIZARD OF OZ, the latter still over a year away from premiering on TV—good thing children get free admission.

More Bogey down south in THE LEFT HAND OF GOD (Roxy). Two different Alan Ladd-John Wayne double-features today: THE MCCONNEL STORY + SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON (Midway drive-in) and SHANE + HONDO (Neptune)—might suprise some people as I'd pick the latter to go see today.

Or I could go see Jane Russell in THE TALL MEN (Paramount), while Marilyn can be found in THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH (Green Lake) with Martin & Lewis, YOU'RE NEVER TOO YOUNG! Disney's LADY AND THE TRAMP playing a few screens around town as is Humphrey Bogart's WE'RE NO ANGELS.

#ThenShowing 13 Oct 1955, Seattle P-I Saw PETE KELLY'S BLUES this past February at Noir City—I can safely miss it today. I've been fortunate enough to see GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES on the big screen (in Dublin, Ireland), maybe it's time to see GENTLEMEN MARRY BRUNETTES (Orpheum)?🤔

If you want to laugh, KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE + EVERYTHING YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT SEX, etc (Uptown); if you want to be disturbed, seek the triple-feature of LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, THE HOUSE THAT VANISHED, DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT (Valley drive-in).

STAR WARS (UA 150), ROCKY (Town), THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (Cinerama), and ANNIE HALL (Lake City), all going strong. I saw the first OH, GOD (Northgate, Southcenter) after many viewings of its sequel, so always preferred it to the original.

#ThenShowing 12 Oct 1977, Seattle Times The fact that I have not ever heard of THE LINCOLN CONSPIRACY means its been debunked though in this day & age it's probably ripe to be "revitalized".🙄 Think I may have caught bits of THE GROOVE TUBE (Midway, Aurora drive-ins) during a late-night cable airing.

…THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN (Kenmore, El Rancho drive-ins), and THE 5000 FINGERS OF DR T (Varsity, one gigantic piano). Seattle being introduced to England's Hammer Films: CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN + X THE UNKNOWN (Midway drive-in).

A better, though darker double-feature up Capitol Hill—SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS + 12 ANGRY MEN (Broadway). Lighter escapism is available: AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS (Blue Mouse), Rodgers & Hammerstein's OKLAHOMA, WILL SUCCESS SPOIL ROCK HUNTER? (Neptune), TAMMY AND THE BACHELOR (Granada),…

#ThenShowing 9 Oct 1957, Seattle P-I There's a film noir double-feature: Mickey Spillane's MY GUN IS QUICK + CHICAGO CONFIDENTIAL (Coliseum)—the latter, I like; the former… well, I've always found Mike Hammer a miserable thug no matter the actor.

…PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID, LAST TANGO IN PARIS, SAVE THE TIGER, and SLEUTH. But what's catching my eye is that late Hammer Horror triple-feature: TWINS OF EVIL, TWISTED NERVE [actually British Lion], and HANDS OF THE RIPPER (El Rancho drive-in).

Here's the first US paperback edition, notice anything strange about it? Signet, the book's publisher decide to put the title inside the front cover (with a doily on fire?). It's now a collector's item, future reprints would, wisely, place the title outside. 2/

Otherwise, it's a rather ho-, and indeed, hum day: case in point, William Castle's 13 GHOSTS (Roxy), an effort where neither the film nor the gimmick impress. I'll have to return on 8 Oct for Elsa Lanchester (Moore Theatre), an intimate musical revue, live and in-person! 3/3

Rathbone & Bruce as Holmes & Watson in DRESSED TO KILL (Madrona) paired with SHE WOLF OF LONDON, one of Universal's more ho-hum "horror" flicks. Despite the star power involved, I'm unfamiliar with CANYON PASSAGE, CLAUDIA AND DAVID, and GALLANT JOURNEY. 4/4
