In hindsight it can also be a fork/trident, eitherway both are things that grab something once it is pierced/caught. I feel like that's pretty self explanatory so I just want to add onto the knife part: Lu is very close to the (fore)stem which is that central part of the hull.

Can lead the Hotel crew to turn a blind eye on the eventual day when Al might have finished setting all his pieces on the board before striking. My mind thinks heavily about the story of the boy who cried wolf, Al keeps 'crying wolf' every time he pokes at Lu, it sets a standard that crying wolf

Besides the very fun placement of Keekee's ears, it could be interpreted as the one creature who could be aware of Lu's mishaps is so used to how he is that there is no apparent worry, no one suspects a thing which fits a lot with how Al skulks and plans for things in relative secrecy while behaving
