Here's a page taken out of context. Three of Jupiter’s Galilean moons are kinda 'lost'.They usually line up like ducks in a row. This emulation was set for 18:34 EST December 18. #astronomy

Enjoying the first cup of coffee this morning when I opened my astronomy app, I noticed Jupiter in the western sky. I zoomed in, and this is what showed up. #astronomy

How can I forget. I was there. The JWST launched from Kourou, French Guiana, on December 25, 2021, at 9:20 am. Talk about a nail bitter. There was a lot at stake.

I agree. Social media platforms are just too toxic. It is refreshing to have a sanctuary to come to.

An incredible shot by astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy. McCarthy says the photo is one of the “most meticulously planned” shots of his career, which has seen no shortage of carefully-planned images that have captured the world’s imagination. #astrophotography #astronomy

Darn! I used my trusty aluminum E6B that I got in 1976 when I was flight training. How can y'all afford the software? I'm retired and on a fixed income. If it's not free, I can't get it. My E6B said 52 miles. Oh well, I was close.

1 regular year is 31,536,000 seconds long. It would take 31,688 years to count to 1 trillion. For comparison, the oldest known cave paintings are 64,000 years old; that's around 2.02 trillion seconds.

It's one of my favorite targets and phases. The first quarter moon with its shadows and depth. In 1994, when I first got the Meade 12-inch LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain, my son was 9-years-old. He was more excited than I was. He fell in love with astronomy. I was the same age when I got hooked.

Where was this beauty in 1994 when I purchased a Meade 12-inch LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope for $4,000? Man! I added nebulae and moon filters, eyepieces, Thousand Oaks full aperture glass solar filter, and other goodies. I'm guessing, in total, I spent around $10,000.

Since I was 10, I have been exploring the cosmos. I am an astrophysicist educated at MIT as well as a theoretical physicist. I worked as a scientist with the DoD in the 1980s. I'm retired, but I believe that I can still make a contribution to the astronomical club.
