Give it a try yourself. It may not solve the overall problem, but there is definitely a great deal of satisfaction in the exercise.

Climbed Mt. Hood once, cramponing our way in the early morning darkness. Needed those ice axes & roped up a little. Smelled like rotten eggs, sulfur venting from that live volcano. Got to the summit at sunrise, the peak making a pointy shadow not unlike the pyramid @ Giza.

It is the duty of our government to, among other things, "promote the general welfare," as it says in the mission statement for the USA, (or the preamble to our Constitution). Right-wingers slap a label on those who try to do so as "socialists." To Trump, & his gang, the New Deal is "communist."

Projection. Trump pays people to be in his audience, not ALL of them, but enough to cause a rowdy, enthusiastic atmosphere. When he came down that escalator, in 2015, the audience of "supporters" were paid extras. It's typical for him to accuse his opposition of the tricks/malfeasances that he does.

My dad would have been 100 years old today. Born 1926. Depression informed. WWII vet: Army Air Corps. A few years later married my mom, a WWII widow with her 7-year-old son. A cost accountant for Control Data. Built his house, a boat, fixed VW engines, always projects. Did it. Never phoned it in.

Kudos to Bernie Sanders, AOC & the rest who push universal health care, but it would be easier to sell it if, like Social Security, the public has to do SOMETHING to earn it. Then it isn't see as some sort of handout, but rather a benefit of participation citizenship.
