The Shinola Hotel made the Rayl's building its home in 2019. Built in 1915, it originally hosted the T.B. Rayl Company, a hardware and sporting goods store. Architect Wirt Rowland and its use of terra cotta on Rayl's became distinctive in Detroit. #nightseries #detroit #architecture #cityofdesign

Inspired by a trip to Italy he took in 1912 and the buildings he saw there (specifically the Palazzo Borghese and the Palazzo Fernese), Albert Kahn designed the Detroit Athletic Club, opened in Detroit in 1915. #detroit #architecture #nightseries #cityofdesign #photography
