The Sasanians have often been overlooked, not only, I believe, because their material culture may not be among the most striking, but more so because even defining what is ‘Sasanian’ is a complex task. As in other similar experiences, a recurring theme emerged in this workshop.

I feel very grateful to have received the British Institute for the Study of Iraq’s Outreach Grant in support of my travel to the 14th ICAANE, which took place in Lyon. As one of the organisers of the workshop ‘Advances in Sasanian Archaeology,’ I was both amazed and delighted by the large turnout.
