I just tried to get a COVID booster. The pharmacy said it would cost almost $300 without insurance. The pharmacist was shocked. I got the impression nobody without insurance had come through (yet). Shaking their head, the pharmacist asked, "Want me to cancel it?" "Yeah," I said with a sigh.

There are some people who "break news," but the corporate incompetence will kill the news worthiness. I've known some amazing reporters who slogged it out at Gannet papers for years, but only because it was a steady paycheck in a declining news industry (that Gannet is killing).

It is. Gannet is the corporation that murdered local news, and created the Zombie Paper. They care about shareholder profits more than journalistic ethics. When I started working for them, every journalist I met (quite literally) said, "Oh, I'm sorry..."

Sort of. Depends on the company. A lot of outlets consider *all* material gathered on an assignment as company property. EX: USAT/Gannett boss told me they owned photos of my cat I shot on my personal phone on my off-time bc I was an employee. So I quit, and went back to freelancing.

The unspoken point here is that members of Congress are arguing they're above laws their constituents are expected to follow - the same constituents who can be harassed or murdered by law enforcement officials (who are similarly immune from prosecution).

McCrery informed the White House that Trump’s ballroom design did not meet fire safety codes, which require the majority of guests to be able to quickly exit through the main entrance during an emergency, according to the people and documents. The architect also pointed out that alternative emergency exit routes out of the building were insufficient, and that there was little in the design to prevent a kitchen fire from rapidly spreading into the event space on the floor above.

In addition to fire safety concerns, Trump’s desired ballroom design did not include enough toilets to accommodate the structure’s maximum occupancy, according to documents, and there were few options for adding more, as the event space occupied most of the building’s footprint. One early ballroom design featured just seven stalls in the women’s bathroom.

On Sept. 30, 2025, a White House team met to review the ballroom design, and they discussed “areas of concern” and comments from contractors on the project, according to a White House official’s meeting notes. “Life safety — big concern,” the notes said.

Earlier today, Rev William Barber II visited Salisbury, MD to lead a march of around 200 in support of Haitian refugees. Barber attempted to deliver a letter and meet with gov't officials in Wicomico Co., MD, home to a large Haitian refugee population, but was denied.
