There’s several other stories in context here–from the 2022 OLPD beating of Hadi Abuatelah, to the 2023 killing of Murod Kurdi by a white woman, which activists say was severely under-investigated. Both stories have been invoked repeatedly by protesters.

Tonight is the Fire & Police Commission meeting. At the last one on Aug 5, police used physical force on a 14-year-old during public comment. Per activists, meeting chair Jim Baker mispronounced the child’s name, prompting the child to call him a “jackass.” Baker then ejected them from the meeting.
