It’s perfectly fine to criticize Acemoğlu’s work, I have my own qualms with it. But you can’t call his body of work “oddly unconvincing”, given the enormous amount of scholarship he has produced, and then present someone like Harari as some sort of thoughtful thinker. Or you can. It’s a choice.

America has never had class consciousness in the traditional sense. It lacks learned reflexes around class struggle, but it does have a heightened sensitivity to cultural (and social) class. Conflating the two turns class politics into cultural sorting, leaving conditions materially unchanged.

I cleaned 11 fountain pens today. It was quite the chore. I normally don’t ink that many so it was a first. I also cleaned Platinum and Opus 88 pens for the first time. The latter was easy because it’s an eyedropper, but I was surprised how easy it was to clean Platinum pens thoroughly.

Pilot Custom 742 LE with an FM nib. It’s a Japan exclusive, but I got lucked out. I didn’t think it was going to arrive as the retailer canceled the order (couldn’t locate it) but then they shipped it. It looks unbelievably good in person. I’m going to fill it with Shin-ryoku.

7.3 was released today and I updated it immediately. (I like to live on the edge.) Set up internal booting and it was quite an easy process. Now I eagerly wait for the next power outage. Kudos to the @unraid.net for the painless process.

dombili @dombi.li · 10/05/2026
I’m so sick of dealing with Unraid. Every time there’s a power outage, I spend at least half an hour of my life rebooting the system over and over again until it decides to work. If the internal booting in 7.3 doesn’t work, I am just gonna buy a Ubiquiti NAS or something and be done with it.

In love with my new fountain pen. I’ve been eyeing it for over a year, and when I came across a good deal, I couldn’t turn it down. I have two other 3776s with C and B nibs, so I went with an F nib this time. Inked it with Waterman Inspired Blue as I wait for Murasaki-shikibu to get back in stock.

I’m not a big fan of their looks myself, but they are a classic. It’s a shame they don’t cater to the lower end of the market, but Lamy, Pilot, and Platinum does a great job there. I am amazed how good Preppy is every time I use it.
