oh yeah, I think I definitely feel this. If you get the balance wrong with long windups and fast player movement, dodging by retreat or ( in 3d ) circlestrafe is trivial.

the balancing aspect of the timing is as obvious as it is interesting. Of the classic beat em ups Super DoubleDragon interests me the most for how it managed to keep a parry/block system of sorts in while still retaining a lot of the core tenants of that era

I seek advice from game designers! #gamedev do beat-em-ups forgo windup on AI attacks to punish players for not playing footsies / lacking in crowd control? My deduction being that an enemy you are not stunlocking is an enemy not being CCd, which makes it dangerous as long as they are close to you

How do you author quake content that stays true to WinQuake's limitations? Are you still using Trenchbroom and other commonplace editors? aren't those limit breaking? I'm very confused as you can tell!
