Actions have consequences, and our hunters are learning that the hard way. Ananiel and Shark clear the air, The Divine asks Levi to do something bad, and Alex and The Historian learn that things aren't quite over with Hugo. youtu.be/GvsAa3JSAVg

Thrythlind (He/Him/They) - Basic necessities shouldn't bankrupt @thrythlind.bsky.social · 16/11/2024

So for a long while I've bemoaned a lack of urban fantasy based CRPGs and I decided earlier in the year to use some of my monthly luxury money on commissioning @doggogills.bsky.social to do a mockup of a character level-up screen see ALT text for more info.

three pictures of a young woman in an open flannel shirt over a black t-shirt, distressed jeans, and black sneakers. She has not quite shoulder-length brown hair.

Picture one she is entirely human.

Picture two is a close up of her face turned very furry with yellow eyes, fangs, and an aggressive expression. She is still mostly human (full on wolf and hybrid forms I suspect would be a skill you turn on) Intention on this was first transformation and being shocked. I originally thought it was a pulled back mid-TF frame, but this works really well. This frame says she has Charm -1, Cool -1, Sharp 0, Tough +2, and Weird +3 (convenient Monster of the Week stats)

Picture three is the largest and depicts her smiling confidently. She now has pointed ears. fangs, furry arms and claw-tipped fingers, but she looks more human than the portrait.

Under the portrait is a block of black text against magenta background
"Choose your 1st Nature. You can have a maximum of two natures. Chosen Natures will impact the skills you have available on level up."

Idea being a 2nd nature would be chosen later and a Werewolf+Werewolf would have access to some of the same skills as a Werewolf+Hunter but both would have access to skills the other didn't. Including unique skills for each combo. The idea being that skills on level up would be available at random from pools like how Wildermyth does it.

The idea of two natures I got from Titan Quest and Grim Dawn where you choose two masteries to create your character's skill set.

The Natures here are: Vampire, Werewolf (which is highlighted), Witch, Hunter, Survivor, Divine, Spirit, and Eldritch.

The color scheme of this is magenta and brown with some black. It leans darker and grimmer with some popping color to give a comic book feel.

Will say more in the other ALT text.

Same woman as the prior picture with same basic picture. However the color scheme if brighter: lavender and blue with some darker purple bits here and there.

Stuff I couldn't fit in the other ALT text, describing each nature:

Vampire - an undead being who drinks blood to survive
Werewolf - a shapeshifter with great senses and physical power.
Witch - A worker of magic, both curses and blessings.
Hunter - A hardened warrior specialized in fighting monsters.
Survivor - Luck and persistence in equal measure. Great with witnesses.
Divine - Devils, angels, sacred beings, and chosen mortals with a mission.
Spirit - Trapped between life and death. Very stealthy and able to get places others can't.
Eldritch - Touched by forces similar to the Divine but far more alien.

The idea being that choosing the nature once you're only part way that direction. like Vampire once is a dhampir rather than truly undead.

The art style I imagine for such a game would be very much evoking literal paper dolls the way Wildermyth does, but instead of evoking the pop-books and woodcut aesthetic of Wildermyth, I was thinking of evoking comic books, especially horror comic books.
