🎨 Dodona's home page and course pages have a new look. The home page now greets you with the one thing that needs your attention today. The top of a course page shows your next exercise and your progress, or, if you're a teacher, the recent activity in your course.
The top of the Dodona home page. A large greeting reads "Welcome back, Lotte", with a line under it saying the deadline for Week 4: Strings in Programming in Python is tomorrow at 23:59 and one more deadline follows this week. Below it, the Programming in Python course card: an "Up next" panel with the exercise Secret agent cipher, last worked on 38 minutes ago, a Week 4 progress bar with 3 solved, 1 started and 1 to do, and a Continue exercise button, next to the week 3, 5 and 6 series with their deadlines. On the right, a list of upcoming deadlines across two courses. The top of the Programming in Python course page as a student sees it. A blue title bar with the course name and teacher, and the course description on the left. On the right, "Up next" names the exercise Secret agent cipher with the Week 4: Strings progress bar and a Continue exercise button, and "My progress" reads 15 of 26 activities solved, 2 of 6 series completed. A "Coming up" strip along the bottom shows Week 3: Loops, Week 4: Strings and Week 5: Lists with their deadlines and progress. The same course page as the teacher sees it. Where the student saw their own progress, a "Last 7 days" panel shows 657 submissions, 28 of 29 students active and 222 exercises solved, with small daily bar charts. Under it, "To do" lists 3 unanswered questions and 15 unreviewed submissions. The "Coming up" tiles show how many students solved each exercise of weeks 3, 4 and 5.

📊 Teaching one or two courses? Your course card on the Dodona home page is now full width: what needs your attention on the left, the class activity of the past week under it, and how your students are doing per series on the right.
The wide course card of a teacher on the Dodona home page. On the left a To do pane with 4 unreviewed submissions, 38 already reviewed, a Last 7 days row showing 518 submissions, 21 of 25 students active and 112 exercises solved as small charts, and a Review submissions button. On the right a Class progress pane with three exercise series, each with a progress bar and its deadline, and a link to all 4 series.

We made Dodona a lot faster over the summer. 🚀 A typical programming exercise now returns its result in about 2 seconds instead of 6. Our slowest judge went from ~15 seconds to ~3. There wasn't one big bottleneck. There were three. 🧵

🎨 The Python sandbox has a fresh look. The editor, input and output are now separate panels, and you switch between giving input one line at a time or all at once with a tab. It also works a lot better with a keyboard and a screen reader!
The Python sandbox in Dodona in the light theme. A code editor panel with a Code tab holds two lines of Python, with Run, Debug and Finalize and submit buttons below it. Under that an input panel with the tabs One at a time and All at once, and an output panel. The same Python sandbox panel in the dark theme, showing the same editor, input and output panels.

📝 Assessment series are now available in every Dodona course! Students have to start the test explicitly, their access stays tied to that browser, API and IDE plugins are blocked, and every action lands in a log you can export afterwards. More information at github.com/orgs/dodona-...
The "What kind of series do you want to create?" step in Dodona, with three cards: Regular series, Assessment series (selected) and Optional series. Below them a panel titled "What is an assessment series?" explains that students must click start, access is limited to the browser they start in, API and IDE plugin access is blocked, and access ends once they finalise.

🎨 We have tweaked the icons in our evaluation module to be more accessible. The green or red line to indicate the status was replaced by a miniature status icon.
