My neighbour handed me a forgotten ebay package - A rare 1960's booklet published by a US church detailing how computers will bring about the end of the world. I thought it would be nonsense, but if you swap Europe for the US, they're not totally wrong.

A quote from "The Role of the Computer in the End-Time" by Ray Brubaker:

When this happens--when one the Bible calls the "Antichrist' appears, you can know that his power will be felt worldwide. For not only will he control the economy, but through a computerized system headquartered in Europe, he will be able to keep tabs on every living person in the world.

Now, according to the Bible the way he will do this is by a number that he will require to appear on either the forehead on the hand of the person that is buying or selling. In that day, when antichrist rules, it will be impossible for anyone to buy or sell without identification. It's as though your social security number was indelibly imprinted on your body. And when you appear before the scanning device, it will be able to register your number and report back instantly on whether or not there are sufficient funds in your bank account and you can make your purchase. Naturally, if you don't have funds in your account or if you don't have a number, you can't do business with any of the commercial enterprises of that day.

Good like a fine cheese or cut grass in spring? I’ve worn aftershave or scented deodorant only a handful of times in 25yrs. Ever since I found natural crystal deodorants. But travelling long haul I’ve had a spray between flights. Not many people round here to offend but, lots of wildlife to see.

Nice. First day on a new job paddling kids down an African river in a dingy, we had a monitor lizard fall out of a tree and into the boat. The only thing that saved a puncture in the rapids was the screaming of the six German school girls holding paddles in the air.

Thankfully the closest confirmed great White shark sighting anywhere near here was off the West Coast of France in 1977. An 850 mile swim. We do get their distant relative the basking shark though. But, that’s only really dangerous to plankton. :-)
