When did Playmobil characters become totally badass? Cyberpunk fashion with pink hair and prosthetics? I like that the laser sight can be removed from the pistol. When I grew up Playmobil characters were total dorks.

Please forgive the crude diagram, but hopefully this explains it. Flat planes are rarely the most useful vs gentle curve or slope.

This looks great! I often struggle with metaballs, especially because they are world aligned. Personally I’m a big fan of the remesh modifier in Blender, which I have as part of my stack for non-destructive model making.

I’m an advocate for a huge ugly panel of debug buttons! It’s so much nicer to make games this way. I made personal editor windows like this for Demonschool, Phantom Spark and Desta.

In 2025 I had very little opportunity to finish things, but I did a great job at logging over 100 experiments and techniques in Notion. It’s like a tutorial series with myself as the sole audience. I’ve done this for about 4 years now and it’s my favourite good habit.

I’m watching a jerk on ‘game dev youtube’ say “Prototypes tell you whether you are gifted”. This is wrong. Prototypes are one of many tools that lets you understand the potential of the game. They’re not a measure of skill. Abandon conceits like being ‘good enough’ and just do the work.
Text screenshot from YouTube transcript;

5:10 Right? So that's number one why
5:12
prototyping is important. It tells you
5:13
whether you're actually gifted or not.
5:16
Number two, prototyping is incredibly
5:18
important because again it tells you
5:19
whether your game idea is actually good.

Fumito Ueda was fond of Ugo Ugo Ruga, a Japanese show from 1993 with CGI made on Amiga computers. Was this episode the inspiration for Shadow of the Colossus?!

How many years must a contributor work on a game before it is no longer a solo dev? Even the Blue Prince wiki uses the term ‘solo dev’.
Wikipedia quote from Blue Prince.

“While the game was mostly developed as a one-person project, Ros also commissioned work from others, including art director Davide Pellino and the jazz duo Trigg & Gusset, to help with the atmosphere of the game.[5] Ros had brought Pellino around two years into development to replace the base Unity assets he used to prototype the game with original art; Ros thought this effort would have taken six months, but this extended to three years to develop a unique art style for the game.[6]”

I’m really interested in early 1980s magazines that taught programming to kids, like One Key Corner in ASCII magazine. A small number of writers made a huge impact to the games industry.
—Why did you decide on Sega, then?
Naka: Kazuya Nishioka, the writer of the One Key Progam corner of ASCIl magazine, is the one who taugt me how to program. Nishika was heavily involved in the promotion of PC sales in Japan, and is famous for creating over 500 computer games.
He was a key figure in Japan's PC boom.
