I wouldn't even trust them as much as a Google search. The pages that Google searches through are inherently different to probabilistic outputs of the next most likely token. Google searches don't make shit up in the same way that LLMs do. LLMs are an entirely different sort of tool.

It's worse than just talking about a physical chain. We think free will is making choices based on information, or inherent dispositions. If it's not determined, then essentially free will is just random spontaneous decisions. That seems to be your choice, determinism of some kind or random chance

I think it's what happens when reality and entertainment gets confused.

Peter James wrote about this in Perfect People. You never quite buy what you think you are buying in the real world.

Putin : Destroys Russia's international military reputation, increases international support for Ukraine. Trump : Destroys the US's economic reputation increases international support for China. I think the playbook they follow is faulty.

There's a line in the Desderata about keeping interested in your own career however humble it may be. I keep finding myself interested in everyone else's career and while the Tea is fun, I don't think it really helps achieve anything.

The Trump administration seems to have the negotiating strategy of the child who says they will take their ball and go home if they aren't allowed to win. How will they feel when they are stuck inside while everyone else plays in the sun with a new ball

If people boasted about their taxes in the same way they boasted about their philanthropy society would function a lot better

Now I know this is fake because somehow Mordor didn't get any tariffs imposed upon them at all. Must be an oversight.

Having read through your thread again what I got was just a load of questions. Is that it? I think we will have to extract ourselves from the US and integrate into Europe. Patiently and quietly, like edging away from the guy at a party who makes you feel uncomfortable without upsetting them.

Once upon a time I worked setting up a lighting rig for a party in your garden. About 11 pm you came out with cups of coffee for the crew and sat and talked with us for a while. It was a lovely moment where you became human to me. Wasn't so grateful for the unlimited Virgin Cola though.

We are in the Phoney War phase of the New World Order but Russia was empowered to do whatever the fuck they like to Europe yesterday & we aren’t ready. We need to be prepared & send all of their embedded assets home, close Twitter & other disinformation propaganda machines & start acting like a team

That's exactly what I thought. People don't seem to learn do they. I wonder if the Mary Rose had become a cautionary tale told to children who wanted to become ship builders if this kind of thing would have been avoided. But then again we would have missed out on an amazing discovery.

I thought that's what happened? Maybe the problem isn't how the fuel allowance was handled but how it was reported. Not sure how media can be made accountable for correct reporting.

I wasn't saying it was right. I think we should laud the people who pay the largest proportion of their income as taxes. The 'winner' is the one who can get as close to 100% and still have enough to live a relatively comfortable life.

Doc Bolus @docbolus.bsky.social · 27/12/2024

Because earning money is not about providing for your needs to them. It is a points system and whoever has the most is the winner.

Interesting episode of the freakinomics podcast. As far as the Russians are concerned we are at war. We need to catch up, while we pretend we are not in direct conflict our defences will be lacking.

What is so depressing is just people with money, land and an agenda getting folks to doff their cap and work against their own best interests. I mean what is the point here? They don't feed the poor with foxes. If they were controlling their numbers why aren't they hunting down Tooting High Road?
