I’ve been designing a tiny tube oven for experiments that goes to 1200 C. The outside is water cooled and can be handled without issue.

Was getting fed up with our previous two Severin induction plates shorting out after one year. So this time I decided to test if pro models are better than the newer sibling. Cost 300 vs 70 Euro, and there’s a massive power difference. Will report back on the findings.

It's been one of those weeks. We've been hard at work on a temperature-jump experiment, but discovered trouble with the detector motions. Cue some troubleshooting and finding that a broken microswitch had broken some more, leading to some emergency X-ray surgery before the Christmas run. 🧪⚛️

Morning. The past week has been super busy with our in-situ temperature cycling experiments, but we have gained some very useful knowledge. Not just on the crystallization of fats upon crash cooling, but also on our equipment. 🧪

Coolant flow cross-over system that allows us to switch coolant streams for fast temperature drops, without interrupting the flow of either stream.

Found two little gems in the stockrooms (so far), which will be of good use in the labs: two DC power supplies, 0-35V, 0-45A. Just a toasty 1600W power output per supply, this’ll be very useful for some modest heating applications.
