Gene Hackman has been in so many good movies, but the one that always comes to mind for me is The Quick and the Dead. I love this movie, and he was a great villain.
Gene Hackman in the movie The Quick and the Dead. He is standing on a Western street, dressed well, with his hand on the pistol at his hip.

RRR
The movie poster for the movie RRR. There are three men and a woman looking out in various directions, on a background of a map and crowd of people.

This was peak video gaming for me. I have a port of this game that still runs on my Mac.
A screen capture of the Facing Worlds map from Unreal Tournament. It is two towers with connecting ground floating above the Earth.

Folks. The Engine Publishing line of GMing books is currently a Bundle of Holding: bundleofholding.com/presents/Eng... These books cover various GMing topics from plots, NPCs, prep, improv, campaigns, and table play. They are one low price for a short time.
6 book covers for: Eureka, Masks, Never Unprepared, Unframed, Odyssey, and Focal Point. Each shows some kind of fantasy roleplaying scene based on the book.

36 years ago this group played TMNT the rpg. Tonight we had a reunion and I ran @arbco.bsky.social Mutants in the Now, with characters based on our original campaign.
A group of old friends gathered around the table playing a role playing game.

A necessary tool for the Marvel Multiverse RPG. This way I can play Cyclops to its full effect. #marvel616

My big project is in the middle of the Valley of Despair, and it's been a rough week. Then I remembered some words of Wisdom from Ted Lasso. So I sent them to my team.

Happy Star Trek Day! I have been a Trek fan since I was a kid, but had a resurgence during the pandemic. Here is a gift that @senda.bsky.social got me for my house. #StarTrekDay

Favorite of all time… I don’t know if I have a favorite of all time. I think an “all time” would have to be something that I have and would keep playing. The closest I think I can get is Swords Without Masters. It is a game I can come back to and have a good time.

Most obscure RPG… The Whispering Vault I could have gone with any number of itch.io games, but I picked a game that few people recognize when I mention it. Created in the early 90s this Horror/Supers game is one that I have always enjoyed. An evocative setting and mythology and decent rules.

Most memorable encounter… Over 40 years there have been several. The one that comes to mind is the finale from my Iron Heroes game. The Demon King, a melee tank, fails to run over the Archer and is knocked prone. The Archer steps up and unleashes a volley of arrows into him, standing over him.

The Scariest Game I’ve Played… Ten Candles. I played a few years ago and loved the way the candles went out and the light diminishing played with mood and tension. I am not normally a horror RPG guy, but it was a great experience.

This is 100% true for me. I recently scrubbed a toilet while listening to "It Takes Two", a college, Friday night, pre-going out, party anthem.

Game I would like to see a new edition of… Underground once again. I would like an updated system but keep the same setting with minor updates and fixes.

Favorite character sheet… I don’t have a specific game, but my favorite sheets are PbtA playbooks. I love how character gen, play, and advancement is all combined on one sheet.

Unplayed RPG I own… LOL There are so many. The ones that I want to get to the table the most: Cartel Twilight 2000 (the new one) Mutants in the Now Those are games I would like to get to the table in the near future.

Complex/Simple RPG I play… It’s the same game, Swords Without Master. The mechanics are simple, roll a few dice. The procedures of the game are complex. Hold the dice here, roll there, pass now, etc. I always struggle to keep the procedures straight. That said, I love the game.

Coolest looking RPG… Underground Everything about this book is cool. The artwork is amazing. The layout was excellent. The sidebars with hyperlinks… all cool. The book was a full, color, glossy book in 1993 which was also something that was not common. As looks go it was cool as hell.

Best secondhand purchase… I bought Jason Morningstar’s copy of The Mountain Witch after an informal G+ auction and @seannittner.bsky.social brokered the deal at GenCon. My second best was getting a 1st edition copy of The Whispering Vault at a GenCon auction.

Favorite licensed RPG… Tales From The Loop. I loved the setting. The artwork is evocative. The mechanics were solid and the publishing quality is superb. I ran a wonderful campaign of Tales that was a mix of the published material and my own.

Will still play in 20 years time… I will still be playing RPGs in my retirement. It is doubtful any of them will be games that are 20’years old. I don’t play anything that is 20 years old now.

Favorite published adventure… I am big fan of DCC adventures and of those The One Who Watches From Below is one of my favorites. It is 1st level Adventure that never feels like one. It has a unique mechanic that makes for a fun time 👀 (no spoilers).

Favorite Game System...today. This one is hard for me. I don't hold loyalty to any given system, so I don't have a favorite system, all-time. Today, my favorite system is Cortex Prime. I'm running three different campaigns in it, and I love the toolkit style of how the Mods and the Prime Sets work

The funniest RPG I have played has to be Paranoia 1st and 2ed. There are so many great adventures published for this game, for these versions. I have run a number of one shots and even one campaign. One of my favs was “Me And My Shadow Mark IV”.

Game I wished I owned. This is a tough one. I have sufficient means to afford any game I want. But one game I never had and I wish I had an original is the Traveller LBB edition. I remember seeing it in the store as a kid and loved the form factor and the “This is the free trader Beowulf”.

Favorite convention purchase… The summer before D&D 3e came out, WoTC brought a pre-print of the PBH to Origins. I had not played D&D for years but the run-up for 3e had gotten my group and I excited. We drove out to Origins for the day to see the PBH and I got these dice for our first game.

Most memorable character death. It was in my Iron Heroes campaign. It was @robertmeverson.bsky.social character and it was not a death by violence but rather sacrifice. His character became a prison for the soul of the big bad and was locked away into a mountain prison for eternity.

Old game that I still play? None really. I tend to just play new games and not go back to older games. The oldest game I have wanted to try is Traveller. Some incantation of the game: LBB, Mongoose, 2300, etc.

Weirdest game I’ve played… A game of All Out Of Bubblegum run by @senda.bsky.social at Queen City Conquest in 2016. The game was based on Hitchhikers and was set in the time just before the Earth was destroyed. I normally play more serious games but this one was quite fun.

I am generally not a fan of tie-in fiction. I’m usually the other way around enjoying games based on an IP. But I did enjoy the Mindjammer novel. The plot was good but I really enjoyed how it conveyed what the world was like.

Favorite Dice. During the height of the Pandemic I got into purchasing raw dice and polishing them and inking the numbers. I would sand the faces while watching Star Trek. I did several sets but these are my personal favorites.

Favorite character. I am going to answer this as a Player and GM. My favorite PC was from a Dungeon World campaign, Korin the Cold. A barbarian who started a life of adventure but eventually fell in love with a god. They had so many great moments and was such fun to play.

I can’t tell you the smartest game I have played. But I will tell you a smart game: Dungeon Crawl Classics. It is my favorite d20 implementation. It does a lot to make you feel like you are playing in the early days of RPGs and streamlines the mechanics to make it enjoyable to play.

Oldest game I’ve played. Would be my first game as well, Moldvay edition of Basic D&D. The oldest game I have recently run was Night’s Black Agents. I tend to play newer games and don’t often go back and play older games.

My first GM's name was Patrick. He was in 6th grade, I was in 4th. He would run solo D&D games for me because I was not cool enough to run with the 6th graders. He was a pretty ok GM for being in 6th grade, but he did drop some rocks on me and railroaded me. We were young. #RPGaDay2023
