There's something about the simulation/computer foundation to The Matrix that makes me want to lean into certain hard-coded mechanics. That the setting _is_ a system, thus has rules, thus can be bent or broken is part of the identity of the franchise. A sense of trad-like cheating the system works

I once made a Matrix ttrpg based on the Earthdawn system (for a friend in a 'maker's secret santa). It had a few really nice mechanical parallels that fit the Matrix setting. Quite trad, but I think about dusting it off and putting a new spin on it from time to time.

The Tetris block. This is not a joke answer, I think the move set of it changing from shape to shape would make for compelling gameplay. Turning into a 2x2 to block, springing around in the Z shape, etc.

The last four TTRPGs I've played: - Invincible (YZE) - Dungeon Crawl Classics - Daggerheart - Slugblaster Eclectic combination. DCC is definitely an outlier; a funnel is not something I'd normally do. I'm looking forward to running AGON in the not too distant future.

When I look at physics vs fiction engine, I equate it like this: it's "What's the realistic thing that should happen here" vs "What's the spy movie thing that would happen here". Many games want us to pass outcomes through a 'real life' filter, where BitD expressly wants a "genre"-based filter.

I personally agree. It sounds like they're doing a public alpha, so I'm going to give it a play to see how it feels. Are the graphics what I expected? No, but I also knew they couldn't support the same graphics fidelity of the Horizon series with so many characters on screen at once.
