So crazy how true this "ornery uncle who misses the good old days" I actually have two uncles like that. Both of them are highly educated professionals with tons of life experience, but they're so far gone out of reality when it comes to politics towards MAGA that there's no going back.

You might actually be on to something there. The term invokes an old generational heritage of the British Commonwealth from "back in the good old days" along with "wealth for the common person". Silly that we may need to resort to word games to make an idea sound more palatable, but such is life.

Sadly the term "social" has a negative connotation/association for more and more people in the western world and in the US in particular. Now large swaths of society is turning away from the concept of social programs. A solution to this mindset needs to be found as part of systemic healing.
