Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Almost ready for the next game, this time a speller. I'm assuming there are some sickos out there (like me) who like to spell things. What are the biggest words you can spell with this grid? 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Nice find! Mi mami just sent me this book, I’m obsessed with español caribeño and his Dictionary of Puerto Rican Colloquialisms is fantastic. Phrases I grew up hearing and am still hearing now with a better understanding of. 012

Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 22/09/2026My prototype boxes just came in for my next card game! I really like this color scheme. If you like word builders like scrabble, banangrams, boggle, etc. Now time to build inventory and hope to have this ready to go by November. 110
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I’ve got two new games nearly ready that would look great on this playing card display. 000
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Getting a couple of new tabletop games ready for production and sale. I’m noticing that dark print fades fast and black is really hard to get right as a color. I’m sure this is well understood but new to me! Anyway, if you like to spell or pattern match, I’ve got some games you might want to try! 120
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Cool obituary. The entire time my brain read this in an Optimus Prime voice. 020

Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 15/06/2026Another game sighting, this time 3 copies at the Topsham store! Much love to the booksellers who placed them eye-level this time. Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 11/06/2026My game in its natural habitat! Shout out to Sherman's in Freeport for not calling the cops on me. For now. #cardgames #boardgames #math 060
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/202615 decimal = 00001111 binary Last one! Now you know how to do decimal to binary conversion for the first 16 decimal numbers 0 - 15. This game idea has been in my head for over a decade and I'm excited that it's finally out in the world! #math #numbers #binary #MathSky #EduSky #Coding #BoardGames 020
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/202614 decimal = 00001110 binary Oh, you may have noticed that the red numbers switched to letters! That's the hexadecimal system, which is base 16. Thinking of The Martian right now, "hexadecimals. hexadecimals." Did I mention that decimal is base 10 and binary is base 2? That's why I chose radxio. 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/202613 decimal = 00001101 The US Trademark office rejected my application right before I was going to go all in on a big printing with the dicipherio name. I switched to radx .io (radxio works too), because radix means number base. The io is supposed to be like 1 and 0 or i/o input/output. 110
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/202612 decimal = 00001100 binary. I'm really drying up on material. How about this, I tried to trademark dicipher .io (I'm using a space so it doesn't point to a URL I don't own) for the game because my original design was with dice. I made a card version because costs are easier to control at first. 110
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/202611 decimal = 00001011 binary I'm running out of material here. Oh, another fun fact: Leibniz is less widely known for his invention of binary arithmetic, the basis for today's digital computing. Note: he didn't invent the concept of binary, just the arithmetic we use today. (See I Ching by Fu Xi) 110
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/202610 decimal = 00001010 binary. Cool pattern. Just like in octal you wouldn't say one thousand ten for 1010, it would be one-zero-one-zero. It reminds me of the joke, "There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't" 🥁 110
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/20269 decimal = 00001001 binary. You probably also noticed in the previous card that the yellow numbers are out of sequence with the blue and red numbers. The yellow numbers are octal, so 0 - 7 (8 numbers) and then resets to 10. For 9 decimal, you have 11 octal. You don't say "eleven", but "one-one". 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/20268 decimal = 00001000 binary Notice that 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128 are "gimmies" - if you draw that card, it's a fast solve. Also notice that 127, 63, 31, 15, 7, 3, and of course 1 are easy to solve because all of those cards are turned on just right of the gimmie cards. 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/20267 decimal = 0000111 binary Notice that odd numbers always have the 0th bit on and even numbers always have the 0th bit off. 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/20266 decimal = 00000110. Again, you could just simplify to 4 bits and say 0110 until you started using the 4th bit (the 5th card, 16). Fun fact: 1 bit is a bit (duh), 8 bits are a byte, and 4 bits are a nibble. 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/20265 decimal = 00000101 binary. Since we are starting at the smallest numbers, we never use bits 4, 5, 6, and 7 but you would if you are brave enough to math in your head. So, you can also say 5 decimal = 0101 binary or just 101, but you sound smarter if you go all 8 bits. 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/20264 decimal = 00000100 binary. Notice I have other numbers and characters on the draw card. I thought it was boring to just have a decimal number, so I added hexadecimal, octal, and the ASCII character set for kicks. Totally just eye candy, because why not make the game even more esoteric haha. 200
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/2026With that same algorithm, 3 is equal to off-off-off-off-off-off-on-on or 00000011 in #binary (Because 2+1 = 3 in the cipher) 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/2026Draw the decimal number 2, and you get 0x128 + 0x64 + 0x32 + 0x16 + 0x8 + 0x4 + 1x2 + 0x1 = 2. So, 2 in decimal is equal to 00000010 in binary. (The 0th bit gets turned back off and the 1st bit gets turned on.) 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/2026If you drew a decimal "1", you would turn on the 0th bit all the way to the right. That's basically saying 0x128 + 0x64 + 0x32 + 0x16 + 0x8 + 0x4 + 0x2 + 1x1 = 1. (So off is equal to a 0 multiplier to leave the bit off while on is equal to a 1 multiplier to turn the bit on.) So, 1 is 00000001. 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/2026So if you drew a decimal "0" from the deck, all cards would stay in off position and have a binary sequence of 00000000. Nothing earth shattering here. (It starts to hurt the brain the bigger the number.) 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/2026So, you can use these cipher cards to do different possible combinations of additions. 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + 32 + 64 + 128 = 255 but only if the bit is turned on. In this picture they are all in off position. 100
Daniel Martínez PhD @dmartinezphd.bsky.social · 09/06/2026The goal is to convert a decimal number from 0 - 255 using a bit sequence and a cipher that helps convert decimal to binary. The faster you are at basic addition, the more likely you'll like this game. An 8-bit sequence, also called a "byte" is just powers of 2 from 1 (2^0) to 128 (2^7). 100
