Agree that consent banners are an antipattern -- see the article. Both Flo and Meta made people go through a "consent" process but the jury found that by California standards no consent was actually given

People used to line up to get new versions of US products. www.computerhistory.org/revolution/p... Now a new release is what you get switched to, and new features are a chore to turn off. Maybe both the election results and the decline in product appeal are downstream from a shift in norms here?

So, if Meta is doing policy changes to be friendlier to Republicans in the USA, then Republicans should like them, right? No—they're still full of fake account schemes to rip off US Army veterans It's one thing to have spam on your site because you don't have time/$ to fix it but this is a choice.

one task that should be a straightforward application of ML to web advertising: find ads with a fake UI element for an action such as "Watch Now" or "Jump to Recipe" They're all scams that try to get the user to install malware—blocking one at a time is a constant chore for legit ad-supported sites

pretty common pattern for pirate TV+movie sites... 1. only one line in ads.txt (begins with a g) 2. DMCA disclaimers (here's how to report it if "a user" uploaded something infringing) 3. most of the ads are for legal streaming services Are the streaming services paying for the pirate sites too?
