While I agree that most of the movie wouldn't be surprising in the RE universe, I don't think any of the stuff that happens would be surprising in most zombie/horror stories. 100

If I would think of RE mechanically, my two biggest things outside general survival horror would be puzzle solving, and multiple routes/characters.
