That absolute rage at being told it wasn't dinner time, and he had just eaten breakfast thirty minutes earlier.

If our military is using your neighborhood for practice, it's probably practice for fighting in your neighborhood. It may be illegal for them to be used to police US civilians, but I think we can agree that the law hasn't been an impediment to this administration's illegal acts so far.

Do bankers, realtors, fund investors, or tech bros give their work away for free? We pay for things we value. We devalue things we expect to get for free or cheap. If my basic needs were covered, I would happily create art for free. Creators shouldn't be forced to starve for their art.

In what genre(s) do you write? I agree betas are rare and wonderful creatures. Have you tried doing critique swaps with other authors?

Morning thoughts while still in bed: We need to put out a line of literary, gay phone cases in the different pride flag colors. They each get a set of words on them like 'there, their, they're' and we call them homophones.

@morganastorm24.bsky.social and I just coined a new term (I think). "The story on which you are/should be working is a WIP. The one you should ignore but on which you want to work is a will-o'-the-WIP."

I have found this to be especially true for middle of the night thoughts. I awaken to an epic idea, jot it down, read the note the next morning, and am instantly disappointed. I no longer write things down unless the thought is persistent and grows.

This feels like a game show. "And the answer is... doom scrolling on social media!" BTW, we've been calling that vague feeling for a story "vibes". It tends to be "all vibes, no plot".

Last NaNo, my cowriter and I made a list of prompts meant to help people get to know their MCs/WIPs better. With NaNo less than two months away, I thought I'd share some here for other writers: 'What is your protagonist's profession, and why is it that?'

True. Your options tend to either be Sea Capt'n or Princess Puff Petals. Lume makes an unscented I tend to favor. It's nice to have something that stops the odor instead of just out-stinking it.
