Nonetheless, legend has it that the original building was long lost behind the new facade created in the early 1980s or thereabouts. Now they want to demolish it? I’ve heard many things over the years, including newer plans, but this is sad.

Long before I moved to NYC for school, I remember staying at the New Grand Hyatt before anyone knew about Trump, and it was one of his first projects, of which he later lost control and others took control. Trump hasn’t been a part of it since decades.

Got around it, but “A new supertall tower that will be built next to Grand Central Terminal…”. ugh, as if the terminal wasn’t already eclipsed by previous buildings built many decades ago, blocking sunlight and architectural details. Grand Central is truly one of the city’s gems, a real favorite!

We cannot get rid of #Trump and the #Republican led government fast enough. Waiting for the #midterms elections is painful. Every day, the incompetence, lies, corruption, scapegoating, etc. are ever more staggering. The entire world knows it, too. America is falling deeply into disgrace.

Instead of burying these grotesque behind-the-scenes calculations under the guise of clean, scientific solutions, a live-streamed, free-range execution would finally give the public the honest, raw barbarism they are tuning in to see.

It would certainly solve the embarrassing paradox of the "anonymous blank round," where a line of grown men stand shoulder-to-shoulder praying they are shooting blanks while collectively carrying the moral damnation of the kill anyway.

If the state truly wants an efficient, transparent spectacle, rendering a man perfectly docile just to shoot him point-blank seems like a tragic waste of administrative effort.

By replacing a complex, blood-stained neoclassical legacy with the cheap aesthetics of a gilded casino, Trump isn't just showing he has zero taste; he is actively trying to erase the sacrifices of the unfree hands that built the house in which he's trying to play king.

000

David J. Zappelli @djzap.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

But what makes Trump's aesthetic inversion truly insidious is his aggressive political crusade to whitewash that very history—systematically purging Black studies, historical discourse, and the realities of slavery from universities, museums, and public memory.

America's Protestant founders explicitly rejected monarchical opulence in favor of civic restraint. Of course, those founders practiced their own monumental hypocrisy—preaching humility while relying on enslaved Black labor to physically build that monument to liberty: apnews.com/article/trum...
