Pressed play on "Master and Commander" tonight to be greeted with a "Contains tobacco depictions" warning. Disney, I grew up in the 1970s, when the entire world smelled of smoke. I can handle it.

A brief moment from last night's fantastic show by They Might Be Giants at the House of Blues in Boston. And they have another one tonight. Don't know how they do it. They're older than I am and my dogs were tired this morning. #concert #photography #boston #houseofblues

My take on AI is, essentially, everybody who’s against is too against it and everybody who’s for it is too for it.

Is Donovan’s “Sunshine Superman” written from the point of view of a resentful Aquaman?

Outstanding show by The Mountain Goats at the House of Blues in Boston tonight. I've lost count of how many times I've listened to "This Year" over the course of the last bunch of years.

Finished John Williams' "Augustus" tonight. I was not prepared for the last line to be that chilling.

Yeah, I have a few things including flashlights that use those batteries, and they're great. I suspect that with speedlites, there's both inertia from them having used AA for so long, and a "but what if I need a fresh set and can't just hit the corner store?" factor, especially when traveling.

(I use a charger that has a conditioning cycle, and do that about once every 5-6 charges. Not sure that really matters.)

Also, the Pros do seem to last longer than the non-pro in the flashes, which is to be expected. So far I haven't had a cell go bad.

I have some of the non-pro and some of the pro Eneloops (they're how I power an assortment of Nikon SB-700 and SB-900 strobes.) I've generally been happy with them; they hold a charge well in storage, and I get a good amount of use out of them (but I don't know if I can quantify it more than that).

Didn't take the day off, but at least I left on time.

Headed out to Destruction Brook today looking for wildflowers; still a bit early, I guess. But some of the ferns are starting to unfurl. Plus, bonus critter hiding in plain sight. #photography #plants #dartmouth #massachusetts

Stopped out at Mass Audubon Stony Brook on the way home tonight for my daily walk instead of hitting the rail trail near my office. Haven't gone through all the photos, but I knew this one would finish up nicely as soon as I shot it. #photography #birds #wildlife #massachusetts

You and me both. I wasn't sure about the casting when I first heard it, but I'm sold.

Not counting insurance and excise taxes, but including the original purchase price, all the fuel and maintenance, and the value at trade-in, worked out to about 21.6 cents per mile. Not too shabby.

Well, this was the final number when I turned it in as the trade-in for a 2026 Accord Hybrid today. 296,132 miles over the last 12 years, which I would have hit a lot faster without 2 years of work-from-home in there. New one started at 8 miles.

Convenient for the NYTimes Spelling Bee that I was eating one of the pangrams when I started the game at lunch.

This is the recipe from Lewis & Poliafito's "Baked Explorations". I've made it before, and the frosting is… recalcitrant. It's an ermine frosting, but the technique isn't what I'm used to and it takes longer to smooth out than it should. I have ideas for next time, duly noted in the Omnomnomicon.

Made a caramel-apple layer cake for my father-in-law's 90th today. Caramel application was a bit messy for me, and I only had the phone to grab a shot of the interior when it came time to serve it, but this was well-received. Very tasty. #photography #cooking #food #foodphotography
