Purely anecdotal, but the bigots in my family tend to be more sympathetic to the plight of the oppressed when they're not human. Especially if they can be viewed as attractive or cuddly. Plus (also anecdotal), they find anything with overt "liberal" messaging repulsive.

Until I submitted my manuscripts for copyright, I was never contacted by vanity publishers. Until I put my book up on netgalley for reviews, I never got the scam emails from "book clubs." Now I get both at least once a week. Can we please burn the industry to the ground and start over?
