Even so, everything hangs together so seamlessly that in the moment I wasn't really thinking about the details of the parry timing. The game is built to allow the player to employ finesse and feel effortlessly cool—while staying honest about it. First Light doesn't desperately go out of its way to make you feel like a genius or deflect your mistakes. But Bond, in the movies, does get caught off-guard sometimes; he sometimes makes mistakes, too. What makes him Bond is that he's always ready to clean up with a lie, a punch, or a bullet; First Light emphasizes this idea, which perfectly fits a stealth game that wants you to play through your mistakes. Again, it lives in that fluidity of joining together different modes of play.

Along with being simpatico on how I feel about Punisher Max, the note about Disney doing a both sides on fascist police actions is pretty spot on. Great read.

It also exists as an interesting example of Disney embracing a sort of idealistic both-sides-ism. Punisher: One Last Kill comes a week after the finale of Daredevil: Born Again which featured an actively anti-facist story that featured a violent unregulated police, the Anti Vigilate Task Force kidnapping people off the streets and keeping them in cruel camps at the behest of a violent fascistic leader. The special not only feels at odds with that show — seeing as this is set in the same city in a similar timeline and you're telling me the AVTF wouldn't be all over Little Sicily?? When a vigilante is literally committing mass murder lmao ?!? — but also weirdly contradictory of MCU Frank's canon hatred of cops who use the Punisher symbol and people like corrupt AVTF leader Powell who have appropriated his brutal vengeance against the system as a part of it.

After that, they pretty much played the Knicks even, but that 63-11 run, which turned an 11-9 Hawks lead into a 72-22 deficit WITH 4:39 REMAINING IN THE FIRST HALF, generally inhibited the Hawks from being their truest selves. Or, if you choose, revealed that true self in the most shameful possible nudity. I mean, there's no convincing way to make 140-89 look competitive, but it is at least imaginable. 63-11 is a fifth-grade CYO score. This game was on ESPN. Children could have watched it.

It should be said that these ports aren’t perfect, and Steam users have eagerly pointed out lots of edge cases that will annoy certain groups of people. Out of the box, these games don’t work on Steam Decks, requiring you to muck around with your computer’s registry table, which is not a thing you want to be doing. Unlike the GOG version, Capcom decided to add DRM to the Steam one for some reason, a form of anti-piracy software that has the fun added benefit of making games run worse. There isn’t an easy way to set these games to their original 4:3 aspect ratio while in full screen, and the character models are much higher resolution here than the backgrounds, robbing some of the impressionistic dithering effect found on the PSX versions.

The film is a hand-crafted homage to the golden era of 2D animation, reimagining of the world of Gorillaz through a classic cinematic lens.

Hewlett collaborated with THE LINE on a vision to reinterpret the iconic Gorillaz world through the visual language and timeless aesthetic of 1960s animated features.

THE LINE adopted a hybrid analogue-digital workflow favouring real materials, practical effects and period-accurate limitations over contemporary shortcuts.

"If particular visuals couldn’t be achieved in that era, then we didn’t do them. We processed our digital pencil work to mimic photocopy degradation. We scanned real paintings at high resolution and finished the details digitally. It was about capturing the tactile quality that only real materials give you." -Max Taylor

Backgrounds became a particular point of pride. Led by Art Director Eido Hayashi, the studio painted base environments on real paper, later integrating them digitally while preserving their texture. Shots were composed in the style of classic animated features, often cutting into master paintings to create impressionistic close-ups reminiscent of depth of field.

If cueing was debunked decades ago by cognitive scientists, why is the idea still in materials that are being sold to schools?

One answer to that question is that school districts still buy the materials. Heinemann, the company that publishes the Fountas and Pinnell and Lucy Calkins' products that the Oakland schools use, earned somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 million in 2018, according to earnings reports.
