Django delivers solidity and security to web applications. Applications that a business can rely on to weather any storm. But Django can be more of a hindrance than a help, so I turned to unstructured Typer Python. The adventure brought me a lot. But now we're back to Django and I'm home again.

For some getting on the news is what they breathe for. For a few, it’s how they become very, very wealthy. The next time you see three very wealthy company owners proclaiming that their products are dangerously powerful, remember that they’re salesmen first, truthtellers second. Or not at all.

My product is so earth-shatteringly powerful that it needs to be caged.

This recent story by whistleblower Jacob Coxon, warning that both Anthropic and OpenAI are “acting irresponsibly”, even “gambling with our lives” is just a mirror image of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei proclaiming that Artificial Super Intelligence could be reached very soon. Both are after headlines.

Our resumé lists our accomplishments. We take pride in what we’ve done. How does it feel though, when AI can do it all better, and faster? Our capital as a company is in the effort and expertise put into successful software products. Is that past tense? Has our capital just been devalued by AI?

I’ve always said, my capital is the code I wrote. Has AI made my capital worthless?

AI is a revolutionary technology the scope of which we've yet to discover. But we struggle with AI. Electricity was the revolution of the late 19th century. The public struggled with it's danger, the work tempo their masters demanded. But the masters struggled too. With the erosion of their class.

Don’t forget: Romanticism was a reactionary movement.
AI is telling us that we’re as much a machine as it is. We fight that notion with all our heart. Like the Romantics before us.

“We live in exciting times”. Well, times were always exciting, I suppose. These times seem exceptionally exciting. We've changed more in the last 6 months than in the entire 15 years of our existence, becoming a fully automated version of our company. But it IS kinda quiet at our Monday meetings..

Coding will be gone in two years. That’s not only what the pundits say. That’s also what the most AI-savvy guy on our team says. But what he also says is this: don’t be a slave of Big AI. Yes, it’ll be hard. And no, it won’t be as fast. But with the smarts of true coders, we can get there.
medium.com
It’s time to ask the question: is being a coder in the age of AI a fool’s errand?
AI is replacing coders, not code. And let’s be clear — all automation is replacing labour by capital. What’s different now is who owns it.

AI needs to be kept on a tight leash. Or bad things will happen. You use Agentic AI for coding do you? You need structure, architecture, a framework, a plan. Rules. I found it out when — for once — I started with a goal but no structured plan or framework. But what happened was not all bad.

Seems there are two AI’s: one frightening, after our jobs and livelihood, sucking scarce water and energy away from us. And the other able to grasp solutions impossibly out of reach for humans. We’re practical people, we here at our software company. We use AI on a tether. We make the rules.
