It depends on how you are getting your copy of nixpkgs: channels, flakes, niv, npins, etc. The thread doesn't specify because there are many ways but you could ask in that thread or one of the many help channels

Ok thanks for sharing. I am still having trouble groking your exact scenario but I think it's enough for me to speak to. With Nix, when building software, dependencies are tightly controlled for reproducibility reasons. For running software, it matters less so.

Hmmm it's hard to understand without an example. But Nix and NixOS heavily rely on using symlinks--specifically because it puts artifacts in an immutable store and looks to them at the FHS level. Oh wait is the GitHub repo the example your talking about?

Wish I could tell you it goes away as you get older. It doesn't go away but it does get better. People grow up and usually abandon these childish ways. You gravitate towards people who treat you well. You learn to handle it better. Chin up

I bought old used laptops T490 - x86_64 - ~250 USD - has USB C and external replaceable battery X13S - aarch64 - ~300 USD - only recently viable with NixOS but hey arm chip!
