Paxton, RFKjr and the other anti-vaccine stooges are playing politics with children's lives and harassing doctors who just want to protect us from preventable diseases. In a just world they would be held liable for every instance of severe illness or death. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/05/h...

Texas Pediatricians Face Paxton Investigations for Vaccinating Children (Gift Article)
Ken Paxton, the Texas attorney general and Republican Senate candidate, has alleged a sprawling profit-driven conspiracy. Pediatricians say the accusations are an attempt at intimidation.

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead

I have questions… All the photos are labeled except for the party cave? What’s with the flying refrigerator over the staircase?

It’s been a little over 2 years since our favorite B&B went event only. Husband and I had many writing retreats there while son was at camp and it was a great place to rent a building for a larger family vacation, especially when needing to keep an eye/ear out for a wandering older family member.

Trying a new game that was suggested over DM. It’s fairly easy, probably because having to edit to meet word count is common practice for me. If you like editing, you might like this: Long Story Short #58 🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦 Cut a sentence to five of its own words. #longstoryshort sheets.works/s/tirsc

I planted a white, a yellow, and a pink/yellow and all three are thriving, particularly the pink/yellow. The behind the fence neighbors severely trimmed the overhanging crepe myrtle this year, so perhaps the additional sun helped?

Altogether, we harvested over 60 pounds of watermelon (not counting the one I picked too early) in less than a month.

Pulled the (possibly) last watermelon and cut them both up for distribution at work.

Cake out and cooling. Only a small bit of crust in the bottom of the pan, so it was probably a drip rather than a leak.

After filling, there was a small puddle of batter on the counter. Was it a leak? A drip? Who knows! I stuck it on a baking sheet just in case. Positive thoughts please

In reading closely, the NYT removed almost half the butter from Nigella’s recipe, so I added it back in. Recipe calls for a springform pan, which always makes me nervous in case I didn’t close it correctly.

I planted these about four years ago and they grew a little, but mostly sat there. This year they are trying to take over the backyard. My best guess – neglect, time, and rain. I haven’t done anything with them, so either they just liked the weather this year or they need some time to get going.

Updates from the garden…banana is at five hands of baby bananas, there’s suspicious activity happening on the neverending watermelon vine, and two green anoles (the front and back garden squad) are keeping watchful eyes out.
We’re up to five hands of baby bananas. Most likely won’t ripen as it will get cold before they’re ripe, if they even get pollinated. I might need to learn how to hand-pollinate bananas.A small baby watermelon and a larger one below on the vinesTwo green anoles hang out on the back wood fence near the very happy lantana blossoms

The beef and onions get cooked together, then mixed with the mushrooms and spices and baked. Once cool, it goes into the fridge overnight and then I’ll warm it up before filling the pies and baking them.

The squirrels planted a pecan in the space between our house and a raised bed, which has now grown into a 4-foot tree. Yay for pecan, but boo for location. Husband dug it up with roots and replanted it in a free corner of our yard. Bonus tree!

Both loaves done. Loaf on right was cooked five minutes less than the loaf on the left and still hit the correct temp. I really like this recipe, but I think I need to adjust its timing for my oven.

I reduced the baking time by five minutes, in the hopes of not catching my bread, and while it cooked to the correct temperature, it still caught. Second loaf will be cooked five more minutes less before temperature check and we’ll see.
