Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies.
They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words.
The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert.
If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.
– Jean-Paul Sartre

If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there's no progress.
If you pull it all the way out, that's not progress.
Progress is healing the wound that the blow made.
And they haven't even begun to pull the knife out, much less heal the wound.
They won't even admit the knife is there.

We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable – but then, so did the divine right of kings.
Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings.
Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the art of words.

A wordle game (not from the NYT). I start with a strong opening: ANIME, POUTY, PAPAL. The only valid letters are a P on 1 and an A in 3, no problem. Then I get desparate and start fishing, with PRAWN and PHASE. No new letters. Nothing. The solution is PZAZZ, with 3 Z's, which isn't even how you nornally spell that word!!

Im Zivilstand Lampenputzer;
Ging im Revoluzzerschritt
Mit den Revoluzzern mit

Und er schrie: „Ich revolüzze!“
Und die Revoluzzermütze
Schob er auf das linke Ohr,
Kam sich höchst gefährlich vor

Doch die Revoluzzer schritten
Mitten in der Straßen Mitten,
Wo er sonsten unverdrutzt
Alle Gaslaternen putzt

Sie vom Boden zu entfernen,
rupfte man die Gaslaternen
Aus dem Straßenpflaster aus,
Zwecks des Barrikadenbaus

Aber unser Revoluzzer
Schrie: „Ich bin der Lampenputzer
Dieses guten Leuchtelichts.
Bitte, bitte, tut ihm nichts!

Wenn wir ihn’ das Licht ausdrehen,
Kann kein Bürger nichts mehr sehen,
Laßt die Lampen stehn, ich bitt!
Denn sonst spiel’ ich nicht mehr mit!“

Doch die Revoluzzer lachten,
Und die Gaslaternen krachten,
Und der Lampenputzer schlich
Fort und weinte bitterlich

Dann ist er zuhaus geblieben
Und hat dort ein Buch geschrieben:
Nämlich, wie man revoluzzt
Und dabei doch Lampen putzt

Reposting this poem translation I saved from someone's tweet a while back. "Der Revoluzzer" (The Revoluter, by Erich Mühsam, translated by Mark Grainger)
The Revoluter
By Erich Mühsam, translated by Mark Grainger

A would-be revolutionary,
a streetlamp cleaner, usually,
paraded with a crowd of peers:
his fellow revolutioneers.

And he cried: "I'm revoluting!"
and placed the cap he felt so cute in
at a rake designed to kindle fear
above his revolution-ear.

But the revoluters strode
in the middle of the road
where he'd ordinarily
be cleaning streetlamps merrily.

With thoughts of building barricades,
the revoluters grabbed their spades
and in a bout of bad behavement
dug the lampposts from the pavement.

But our revolutionator cried:
"I'll have to fix this later!
I'm the keeper of this light.
Please let it survive the night!

If we snuffer out its spark
our townsfolk will be in the dark.
Leave the lamps up, I implore,
or I won't play with you no more!"

But the revoluters roared
as the lantern lights were floored,
and the streetlamp cleaner crept
away from the parade and wept.

From then on, he stayed at home
and wrote an academic tome
on how to revolutionate
while keeping all the streetlamps straight.

Edited screenshot from Karl Marx - Capital Volume One, Chapter 29: "Genesis of the Capitalist Podcaster".
Now that we have considered the forcible creation of a class of outlawed proletarians, the bloody discipline that turned them into wage labourers, the disgraceful action of the State which employed the police to accelerate the accumulation of capital by increasing the degree of exploitation of labour, the question remains: whence came the capitalists originally? In a word: podcasts. In England the first form of the podcaster is the Joe Rogan bro, himself a serf. His position is similar to that of the old Roman villicus, only in a more limited sphere of action.

Can't say I entirely understand it either but this is what Jack Ass said in his complaint (as per www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/cr... )
Screenshot of the legal document. Source: https://www.thesmokinggun.com/file/another-ass-sues-viacom?page=1

That my reason for changing my name from Bob Craft to Jack Ass was because I created a cartoon character named Andi Ass after my brother Andy who died with another friend in a single vehicle tragedy. I wanted to bring attention to myself in an effort to raise awareness in others. I and Andi Ass promote accountable choices with a designated driver slogan,. "BE A SMART ASS, NOT A DUMB ASS". On Jack Ass's Beer (which is actually a beer bottle with a genuine "Jack Ass Award" inside it) is a picture of me and Andi Ass with our slogan. The "SMART ASS" chooses a designated driver, rather than being a "DUMB ASS" and drink while driving. This fits perfectly with designated driver messages and open container laws. I and Andi's message of accountability is sent through humor and is best said in Andi Ass's own words: "Looking from what comes from Andi and Jack's voices, You will see we promote positive accountable choices, It is not the beer that ever causes you your harm, It's yourself connected to the drink on the end of your arm".
The message of accountability is important to Andi Ass and myself and this is shown in their Mission Statement which is listed in our web site of www.andiass.com: "To build a three-way-bridge between the public, the consumer and the beverage industry, forming a common ground upon which to promote accountability in the consumption of alcohol".

Reminds me of how they forced women to become accomplished scientists, heartbreaking
Article blurb by The Economist: "In Soviet times, communist regimes pressed both men and women into scientific careers. The coercion may be gone, but the legacy remains."
The picture shows a female scientist in a lab.
The headline: "Half the scientists in some eastern European countries are women"

Underneath, there's a crudely drawn cartoon of a Soviet soldier wielding an AK-47, yelling at scared woman. She says: "There seems to be a mistake, I was supposed to be a woman born into a backward family that never had a chance to attend school and got my marriage arranged by my family." I've been doing daily sketches for the last week, here's some that I like:
Day 7: "Zohran Mamdani". A yellow two-tone drawing of Zohran, a handsome bearded man, smiling with his arms crossed. The title says ZOHRAN for NEW YORK CITY. Behind him, red typewriter text on a blue background reads excerpts from his victory speech:

Tonight, we made history. In the words of Nelson Mandela, "It always seems impossible until it is done." My friends, we have done it. I will be your Democratic nominee for the mayor of New York City. If this campaign has demonstrated anything to the world, it is that our dreams can become reality. Dreaming demands hope and when I think of hope, I think of the unprecedented coalition of New Yorkers that we have built. Dreaming demands solidarity and when I look out at this room and out onto the midnight skyline, that is what I see. A life of dignity should not be reserved for a fortunate few. It should be one that city government guarantees for each and every New Yorker.Day 6: "Pale Blue Dots". It's a rendition of the Earthrise photo from Apollo 10, in a simplified pointillist style. The Earth is rising above the lunar horizon, composed of many blue-white dots and dark gray dots, respectively.
