As an anti-death penalty advocate I'm not sure I'm opposed to this. It is easier to ignore government revenge killings if they are done out of the public eye. I have the hope that seeing the government take the life of a defenseless person evokes a visceral reaction in the viewer.

I'm angry that you stood behind your police commissioner while she told the press about a violent crime the shooting victim was arrested for but was never convicted of. You knew and could've said he has no violent criminal record but you chose to paint him as violently as possible.

I like how Siegel demonstrates entitlement by showing a sex pest dangling from the side of a building and being able to get back into the building by promising to keep his hands to himself and the initial response is "I PROMISE NOTHING!"

The 3rd Amendment prohibits soldiers from being quartered in a home without consent of the owners. What is NY if not the home of its residents. If owners (voters) condition quartering (allowing them to live in) soldiers (ICE agents) on behavior (no masks) that is a right guaranteed by the 3d Am.

The lack of teeth in the 22nd Amendment, the prohibition on election but not filling the office, makes it all too easy to circumvent. We shouldn't think for a second that he can't effectively run again.

I wonder if a five year old who saw his father shot by ICE agents while they were in the car together in NYC today would have needed to go through that if this Obama appointee hadn't said states can't stop armed masked ICE agents. www.politico.com/news/2026/08...

The answer I'd expect is there a difference between innocent children and convicted murderers. That puts tiers on the value of life. Govt sanctioned revenge killing is still revenge killing. All human life has value. No one should ever try to take it.

When someone is stopped by police that is a restraint on liberty that is only permitted when there is reasonable suspicion of illegal activity. In this case, there was no reasonable suspicion until after the stop. There is no law against carrying a firearm in a vehicle, only a TOS violation.

You need reasonable suspicion for a traffic stop. Telling police you have a rider breaking your TOS isn't RS. You need probable cause to arrest which is what Alphabet appeared to do as an agent of law enforcement. If it turns out they weren't technically arrested the stop is still bad.

I think teens who are drinking are more likely to stay put in a robot car that pulls over for no reason than kids with a ghost assault rifle. If you see something about the kids in this case being free to go, please post it.

The TOS violation was having a gun, which is legal in SF. The crime was being in possession as a juvenile and it being a ghost gun, neither of which Waymo knew before the police arrived.

I was mirroring a previous posters' rhetoric and under a strict definition I think only a govt can be fascist but I don't mind playing loose with the def where a giant corporation (Alphabet) locked kids in a car and called the police because the kids violated TOS. The crime was discovered later.

Waymo didn't report a crime, they reported a violation of terms of service. Police found out they were minors with a ghost gun after Waymo detained them.

dixon7.bsky.social @dixon7.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
No police report has been released because they were juveniles, only a press release was issued. The Times says the car pulled over and police were contacted. I don't see a scenario where the car pulls over and the passengers with an illegal assault rifle just sit and wait for police.

Waymo pulls over, calls cops on juvenile riders who had 'ghost gun,' authorities say
Two young people riding in an autonomous vehicle were arrested in San Francisco after authorities allegedly found them in possession of an illegal 'ghost gun.'

I've never used Waymo, would Waymo know if there were minors in the car if an adult account ordered the ride? Is it hypothetically possible a 16 year old's 18 year old friend orders a ride, doesn't get in, and the car takes the 16 year old home?

dixon7.bsky.social @dixon7.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Arresting people with an illegal gun isn't the issue. Detaining someone without probable cause of a crime is the issue. The arrest came after that.
100
dixon7.bsky.social @dixon7.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Does Waymo know the age of its occupants? I've never ridden and don't know. I'm guessing, at most, they know the age of the person paying for the ride, in which case they trapped people in a car not for breaking a law but for violating a TOS.

200
dixon7.bsky.social @dixon7.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
From reading the article I understood Waymo to have seen it on video. I don't think they have enough people listening to audio randomly and I don't think that if those two spoke about the gun they would use terms AI understood. Waymo just says they "detected" it.

I'm super in favor of gun control but every piece of evidence here should be suppressed. I didn't hear there was any evidence of a crime until the robot imprisoned its riders and the police searched them. Without probable cause the evidence is inadmissible.

The loss of 2977 lives on 9/11 was a tragedy. The 1.23 mil Covid deaths, 1.13 mil abortions annually, and the 44,000 gun deaths annually are also tragic. When people tell me to never forget 9/11 but not the millions of other deaths we could prevent with effective government I question their motives.

It is possible unions needed to be brought down to rise up. Unions in my youth had alligned themselves with politics rather than workers. Unions took positions that hurt workers because of this. Now we have a chance to build unions strong and fresh. Every either should be looking to join a group.
