1/ Twenty food companies paid their shareholders more in two years than it would cost to feed the world's hungriest 230 million people. That's from Food, Land & Money, launched by @foeus.bsky.social at NY Climate Week. The twenty include JBS and Tyson.
Diagram titled "Two routes to defunding Big Livestock". At the top, a dark red box reads "A large meat or dairy company", with arrows leading down to two sides. On the left, labelled "Shares", a grey padlock icon with the word "Locked" beneath it and the caption: index funds hold every company in the index, whatever it does; family, private and cooperative shares aren't traded at all. On the right, labelled "Loans", an orange circular arrow with the words "every few years" inside it and the word "Renewed" beneath, with the caption: each renewal is a decision — whether to lend, and on what terms — and it reaches private companies too. The diagram contrasts shareholding, which offers little leverage because most shares cannot or will not be sold, with lending, which comes up for renewal and so offers a recurring decision point.

1/ This week in New York the world's biggest banks are talking about their transition plans. Their loan books tell a different story. The ten highest-emitting livestock companies took $181.5bn in credit from 2015 to 2022 — and half of it came from just ten banks.
Bar chart of the ten largest lenders to the ten highest-emitting livestock companies, 2015–22, with six shaded as Banking on Climate Chaos 'Dirty Dozen' fossil-fuel financiers. Bank of America leads at $13.2bn.

If I was putting on a Climate Week food event about good farming practices, I personally would opt to not have it cosponsored by a company that was found to raise animals in unspeakably cruel conditions. But maybe that's just me.

"Huon Aquaculture, owned by the Brazilian meat company JBS, accounted for 1,126 of the explosives used in the first half of 2026, almost two-thirds of the total." "Since the start of 2021, 48 seals have died at Tasmanian salmon farms.' Yet another reason to boycott behemoth meat co. JBS. Go Vegan🌱

Imagine being lowered into a gas chamber while fully conscious. The gas causes pain as it dissolves into the moist tissues of your eyes, nose, mouth and lungs. Breathing becomes extremely painful. And you may remain conscious for up to 60 seconds before finally blacking out.

1/ New York Climate Week opens today. Worth remembering what JBS, the world's largest meat company, did in July: it quietly dropped the 2040 net-zero target it once advertised like this.
