October has historically been my luckiest month for querying. So let's go!

Deliciously unhinged! I love it 😂

I love this take! I only write poetry when I feel at least mildly feral and entirely emotionally untethered. Then I feel exposed 😅

Now and again I remember Documentary Now! chuckle and revisit the months I was hyperfixated on Bill Hader's brand of comedy. Then I realize I still have one whole season of Barry left to watch! Then I forget to watch hahaha. But now I've discovered Hader is directing a horror movie!?! Bring. It. On.

Maybe I should write the sequel to the shelved manuscript, purely for the sake of reading it myself... Such a shame I'm a pragmatist T_T

Writing Pain Point: The closer you get to the ending, the more it exposes the tiny cracks where the characters' wants and needs are not 100% crystal clear T_T [Funny that Lucifer, the master of probing others, is one of the least self-aware characters on the block, hahaha]

Reading graphic novels as my "light" summer reads, so here are three all-time favorites of mine: "Morgane" by Kansara & Fert (French). Not sure what translations exist out there (sorry!), but look how stunning! Feels like it belongs alongside Angela Carter's stories ^^

Much of re-educating myself emotionally as a grown up woman has been reframing relationships in the shows I loved back then (and actually still love). I feel so much of the "Love takes work" paradigm in media has been ignoring the part of "who exactly has to do the work"...

It's been six months since my story "Wintering" came out in Lost Balloon: lost-balloon.com/2026/02/11/w... It is one of my most mellow pieces, though not entirely painless. If you read "Love for the Artist" in Strange Pilgrims and enjoyed it, maybe you will like this one too?

My neighbor shouldn’t live on his own. Not once in the four weeks since I moved in, have I seen a soul enter his apartment—no friend, no family, no girl—and yet, the boy cannot be older than sevent…

The relief of going back to a WIP after a pause and finding lines that make me grin or rub my hands like a cartoon villain... If past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior, well, maybe I can do this: finish that dang book! Come, girl, just remember how to write hahaha.

Today's #SFFChat and its focus on diseases and infections reminded me of an old discussion with a friend: if scientists or sorcerers created a disease that only killed "bad people", would the creators die? Feels like a mind twister to be found in @afterdinnerconversation.com maybe?

Every once in a while, I think of "What Of This Goldfish Would You Wish?" by E. Keret. It is by far my favorite take on the three wishes tale. Such precise subversion of expectations to reveal the warmest core!

Writing speculative fiction, a lot of my effort goes into providing enough details for the reader to happily suspend disbelief. Funnily, I've noticed that it is always the elements directly lifted from reality that people challenge most. I guess life is often stranger than fiction?

For a girl who eats up dramatic storytelling, days that start with quiet narratives only to devolve into unhinged laughter are the ultimate, flavorful experience. What is one to do but embrace one's absolute delight in horrific chaos? 😅

Saw this exhilarating urban art show today: We Are [Still] Here. What moved me most was how some of the contemporary pieces were hidden within the historical collection. It made for a sweet treasure hunt.

Pop-Up Submission Call!! In... 6 hours. Submissions will be open for one hour tonight/tomorrow morning (?), Wednesday, May 20, from 4am-5am ET (so, 1am-2am PT, and a more convenient hour for those of you outside the US). havehashad.submittable.com/submit/35651...
spontaneous Tuesday night/Wednesday morning call
Ends on Wed, May 20, 2026 5:00 AM (in 6 hours)
Submissions will be open tonight/this morning, Wednesday, May 20, from 4am-5am ET (so, 1am-2am PT, and a more convenient hour for those of you outside the US).

No submission cap, so no race against each other, but only open for an hour, and that hour is... kinda inconvenient. You have to a) see this announcement in the first place!, and b) either stay up late, wake up early, or be one of our international peeps.

500 word max
only submit one piece; if micros or poems, two are ok
open to all genre
no theme

If you're reading this, you probably have a pretty good idea of what I/HAD like, but some stuff that jumps to my mind:

long single sentence pieces, single paragraph blocks of texts (prose poems, I guess you could just say), longass lists, crazy long titles (used to be more common on HAD, we've gotten away from them a bit, would be fun to see some more again), funny stuff that makes me laugh, stuff that makes me laugh and then punches me in my emotions, sexy stuff that makes me blush, stuff that makes me go "huh??", stuff I'm not sure I "get" but that gets inside my brain...

Going to try to respond to everyone throughout Tuesday, but we'll see how many come in during this hour!

Thanks.

💀💀💀
