Part of my campaign strategy is that I have stickers cued to my issue priorities, scaled to fit on my yard signs, so supporters can choose how they identify. The three yard signs requested today⤵️

I made DC Regulations easier to read! Why did I bother with this? To read the current regs, you need to find the section and then open up a .doc or .docx file, and it's difficult to jump between sections. It's bothered me when investigating something in code in the past (1/2)

Fine to disagree on tax policy, but not fine to work with GOP to significantly limit DC home rule. If DoorDash thinks DC will accept them intervening in our tax code, they don't deserve our business. I've deleted my DoorDash account and encourage others to do the same.

Sort of, but not easily. Looking at the outer ring, you can see JLG 1st and Kenyan 2nd is actually the most common in mayoral race (besides JLG first and no other candidate) I'm going to update the colors so that the outer ring matches the candidate in that ranking and not the initial candidate.

Seems like the Ward 1 cross endorsement had limited impact. Roughly an equal amount of Rashida voters ranked Miguel and Aparna second. Same goes with Miguel's 2nd rankings. You can drill into more details on the rankings in the sunburst chart at the bottom. (2/3)

Making it super expensive to operate streateries is quite possibly one of the dumbest public space decisions we've made as a city recently. Streateries existing are a net public good. They make our neighborhoods livelier and more enjoyable to be in.

Following up on some questions from @chenderson.bsky.social re 311 and rodent trends. Writing up something longer, but I found this trend interesting. It is taking the city much longer to close out rodent abatement tickets in Ward 5 recently. cc @cmzparker5.bsky.social

Council should require DC Health to revise the pilot design, publicly explain its methodology, address non-target and safety questions, and hold off on expanding these products until the data can actually support the claim. 7/7
001
Josh Jacobson @districtjosh.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
Dense urban neighborhoods are hard: rats have competing food sources, and bait uptake/repeated consumption matter. Without accounting for those factors, DC may spend money scaling products without knowing whether they work at all! 6/7

Josh Jacobson @districtjosh.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
A pilot should answer a clear question: does fertility control reduce rat populations in dense urban conditions? To do that, DC needs an evaluation design that can measure the fertility-control intervention independently. 5/7
100
Josh Jacobson @districtjosh.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
DC Health first uses a rodenticide, then a tracking power with burrow closure, then fertility-control bait weekly. They are also doing education during this time. If rat activity declines after, they can’t credibly say fertility control was the reason. 4/7

Josh Jacobson @districtjosh.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
That’s not just my concern. I’ve participated in two meetings with DC Health’s rodent-control team and world-leading experts Dr. Jens Jacob and Giovanna Massei, who raised serious concerns about the pilot design and how results will be interpreted. 3/7
100
Josh Jacobson @districtjosh.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
Lower burrow counts are good. But this pilot design can’t show that the fertility-control product caused them. DC Health has layered in several interventions, meaning we won’t know what is actually having an impact. 2/7
100
Josh Jacobson @districtjosh.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
A 7News story says DC Health is pointing to lower rat burrow counts in Adams Morgan and Eastern Market as evidence that its fertility-control pilot is working. DC Health is wrong to say that proves fertility control is working. (1/7)

Listening sessions are an opt-in engagement that many kinds of people will not choose or be able to participate in. A better process would be identifying kinds of users and features, then interviewing identified people who are your types of users to develop your product requirements.

I agree with both of you on this fwiw. But I think the best thing we can do in the moment is to pack these listening sessions with people who are willing to remind them that the most important thing is an app that functions and doesn't go down. In parallel, Kyle will keep making his app better :)
