yea i would prefer that code running on my computer (or code that has access to my data) was made by somebody who understands what it does and has good intentions, like just from the most basic computer security perspective possible

people love saying this and then studies show that there’re no productivity gains for experienced developers or on enterprise teams and we’re just seeing a bunch of vibe-coded apps nobody uses flood app stores—and the code that llms produce is bug-ridden, unreadable, and unmaintainable

thats such stupid reasoning—then re-org to have a larger number of small teams? what does this nonsense lie do for them

plus from a ux perspective, even if auto-updates are enabled, software updates typically involve a loss of state of some kind: losing open tabs/unsaved work, having to restart the application, etc. — sometimes not a problem, extremely annoying when it is

yea thats why ai critics really should be specific in our language and disambiguate between llms/genai and classification models/machine learning/older, more useful, reliable, and energy-efficient forms of "ai" (not that those are immune to criticism—they replicate any bias in the training data)

“(and ideally has never been) connected to the internet” what’s this magical ai going to do? retroactively burrow into my laptop from the future? these people are nuts

this inspired me to check out the state of pirating photoshop in 2026, and yea that wasn’t hard at all lmao

at that point, what’s the point of hiring a publishing house when an author could just generate this same slop all by themselves?

iirc studies show that listening to an audiobook and reading a book lead to the same levels of text comprehension. we just don’t have a word for “consuming the info in a book” that works for both, and ‘read’ is the better word. if you’re not actively learning to read, they’re equivalent

i live in sf where these things are everywhere, i’m telling you things i’ve either witnessed with my own eyes or, in the case of the 3am parking lot fiasco, a friend of mine lives in the apartment building next door—and yes, automation in general when we have piss poor social safety nets is bad

4. and yes, if you get an uber, some of your fare goes to a megacorp, but you’re also supporting a human gig-worker, versus all of your money going to a big tech company—i feel like you’re just being obtuse at this point

1. doi.org/10.1016/j.tbs.2026.101268 2.i didn’t say they drive worse, i was referencing things i’ve seen where they block driveways and intersections, drive below the speed limit, honk at each other in a parking lot at 3am,etc.3. as of july this year, they can be ticketed, only for moving violations

adding more cars to the equation only reinforces our dependance on car infrastructure, but my main issue with them, on top of how they drive horribly and are public nuisances(that cant be ticketed for some reason),is that you’re giving money to a multi-billion-dollar megacorp instead of a gig worker

when i read this i was like, surely the people playing with you in the fantasy league would not like that you do this? like if somebody came to my friends’ board game nights and let a robot do their turns for them we’d probably stop inviting that person to board game nights…

remember when these people were trying to convince us "prompt engineer" was going to be a real job, and then the prompts they "engineer" just boil down to adding "dont make any mistakes" to whatever they say (and it still doesnt work)

but yes i agree it's a completely silly to get mad at bc it has no electoral significance—i saw someone say that "well people who cast protest votes also talk to people in swing states so it is significant" which is just ridiculous

telegraphing to democrats that there are active voters who they arent providing adequately progressive candidates to capture the votes of, is a strategy
110
m @disdyakis.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
they foist out the “you have to vote strategically” argument 24/7 and then when leftists actually vote strategically they’re like “not like that 😡"

i’ve seen at least 2 job postings for design software engineer work where the job title was “imagineer” and i’m like, a. that’s a disney thing why are you adopting that and, b. i don’t want that to be my job title

i am not a wrathful person but all the rationalization about AI gets to me! every lie or piece of boosterism is a direct attack on an art form i love. i am a professional programmer. all my code was written by me. don't ever make up lies about other people's processes to justify your AI use.

i mean they were the details given by the third-party on twitter who originally brought it to light and claims to be part of the management team that fired him from the college's radio station at the time—so, fairly credible? especially bc in his statement he didnt refute any of those claims?

my ‘answer’ to this is that, i assume (maybe incorrectly, science doesn’t know yet) that to teleport living/sentient things you’d need to use quantum teleportation, and quantum cloning is mathematically impossible—also the same continuity of consciousness problem also exists for like, naps

same with ppl who like self-driving cars—the no. 1 “pro” i hear abt them is ppl saying “then you don’t have to talk to an uber driver” and like? you can’t make polite small-talk for 10 minutes? grow up

im using the cs definition of deterministic that includes "doesnt use random variables"—so if the temperature is set to anything above 0, theyre not deterministic (and even then, as mentioned below, floating point math in the gpus can still cause indeterminism)
000
m @disdyakis.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
not quite—it means, as an algorithm, that it doesn't use random variables or global variables, or allow for a race condition. i think certain hardware issues can even make an algorithm non-deterministic. and is my understanding of llms not right that the same input doesn't yield the same output?
100
m @disdyakis.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
not to be pedantic but they’re not deterministic at all, they’re stochastic systems—i think it’s important to note just bc the so-called-hallucinations that make llms so dangerous for everything they’re used for is baked into how this technology fundamentally works

yea early on in the pandemic i got tiktok and apparently watched it so much that part of the ui got burned into my phones screen—two years rid of it and my brain is definitely a lot better for it
030
m @disdyakis.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
no but this is actually a “conspiracy theory” rampant on tiktok—like helen keller did in fact fly a plane and people use that as “proof” that she wasn’t really deafblind or that she didn’t exist. she took over the controls for 20 minutes and the pilots told her what to do through her translator
