Tonight I bought my PhD supervisor dinner. It was like buying my dad dinner with my first good paycheck. Felt nice to give something small back to someone who has given me so much.

I agree but but but…can I finish a poster earlier than 24 hours before I leave for a conference? No. Do I have the ability to do sufficient forward analysis without stress of an impending deadline? Also no.

Totally. I was involved a lot in NZ in tsunami warnings and local source was the worst case scenario. Ooph.

I agree with this but I also think the truth is that local source tsunami is extremely complicated to model and warn for. Working on earthquake early warning, I appreciate how hard this all is. My thoughts to my noaa colleagues on this one.

Ok science community, here is my pettiest and smallest hill I’m going to die on. Hear me out: posters are stupid. They waste paper, ink and this plane is full of poster tubes taking up space. I’m grateful to have a poster presentation but bring in electronic posters asap!
