Three of the best 2026 releases I've seen so far. And also another movie. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched ##filmsky

Down the road from me. Nice little museum in suppprt of a venerable institution. We should throw all these fuckers into the sea and see how eager they are to hurl abuse at those who come to rescue them.

On board with #Lanterns. Cleverly mixes superhero tropes with a more grounded f-bomb laden backdrop, seemingly projecting irreverence while subtlety doing what it needs to for us to take it seriously. And it's working.

Matt Clark @disappearer.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

Decent opening episode of #Lanterns. Possibly one of the more difficult DC properties to apply a mature tone to but i think they might just pull it off.

I hadn't paid much attention to this story as it seemed strange why this guy was being treated like he'd committed the Crime of the Century when we all know full well there are people *far* more deserving of that level of scrutiny. And this is the result. Shameful. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Catching up with #Sugar Season 2 and I absolutely love this show. Colin Farrell projecting some sort of alchemical hardboiled empathy as the *ahem* otherworldly PI. Fantastic support from Tony Dalton, Shea Whigham and Sasha Calle. There better be a Season 3!

030

Matt Clark @disappearer.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

I eked the final season of #TheBear out for as long as I could because I didn't want it to be over. Was never going to hit the heights of Season 1 and (particularly) Season 2 but boy, I'm going to miss those characters. A great series.

Matt Clark @disappearer.bsky.social · 11/08/2026

#HouseOfTheDragon Not the best Game of Thrones spin-off this year but it was an improvement on the last season!

This sucks. The timing of it makes it feel like they're rewarding Destin Daniel Cretton for his blockbusting Spider-Man movie by cancelling his acclaimed TV show.

#NowWatching I'm not sure how this became an annual/comfort watch (it's not even my favourite Tarantino) but there we go.

#Sugar is a sweet treat. A neo noir witha twist, what really connects in amongst the tropes is the pure empathy of the titular character.

By all accounts the world was a better place with Sam Neill in it. RIP.

Catching up with the latest season of #AbbottElementary, always a pleasant, undemanding watch. William Stanford Davis as Mr Johnson is the best character and I just watched him deliver the best joke of the entire series. Something about a dog and homework. If you know, you know.

Bit late to the end but #ForAllMankind Season 5 the best since Season 2? Always deftly handles the time jumps and has a brilliant knack of transforming the chaos and turmoil into hope and wonder.

My review of the new Supergirl movie is as follows... Read Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely - it's one of the best comics of the decade.

#HouseOfTheDragon That was bonkers. If they can keep that up it'll be a major course-correct after Season 2.

Followed up Disclosure Day with a rewatch of Duel, a movie I've not seen in, um, decades! And wouldn't you know, there's a straight up homage in his latest to a scene in the 55 year-old (!) movie. No spoilers but I thought was pretty cool.

It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley Perhaps not definitive but a fascinating insight into a once-in-a-generation talent. I saw him live in 1995 and he was electrifying. Just over 2 years later he was gone. But the music will always be with us.

#TheBoys By the end it was purely being sustained by Antony Starr's astonishing performance. It used to be great but peaked too early, was spinning its wheels as it closed in on the finish line.

Hugely impressed by the first episode of the BBC's #LordOfTheFlies adaptation. Real first-act-of-a-horror-movie vibes throughout.

Didn't really have any high expectations for #AKnightOfTheSevenKingdoms so maybe that's why I'm enjoying it so much? Or maybe I'm enjoying it so much because it's actually very good.

A late UK release means I'm delayed in saying it's one of the best TV shows of 2025... ...but #TheLowdown is excellent. Tremendous cast bringing to life a richly diverse bunch of characters in a twisty, noirish crime comedy/thriller. Completely my bag.
