Neverending Story. I walked into the living room at age 4 or so right when this motherfucker was on screen. Terrifying! Also the scene with the sphinxes was really scary to me too, but I wouldn't have seen that bit until a few years later.

Bonus #StereophotoStuesday! (aka actually on-time). Did you know you can make stereoimagery from a 3D rendered videogame? Just take a pair of snapshots offset a bit. Here's Lower and Upper La Noscea from #FFXIV #Stereophoto #3D #ParallelView

Screenshot from FFXIV. Aerial view from the lighthouse in Lower La Noscea, toward the north, overlooking a massive crystalline impact splash.

It's not #StereophotoStuesday yet but I keep forgetting it so I'm posting it early. Sumac Grove, seen at Good Earth State Park in South Dakota. #stereophoto #3d #parallelview

A whole bunch of bright red sumac, forming a crimson canopy at about eye-level. Green-leafed deciduous trees form a backdrop at the far end of the grove.

I made a friend today! And by "friend" I mean he grumpily waited for me to get out of his face. On the walking path at Sioux Falls Park!

A chonky snapping turtle, with Resting Grump Face, just chilling on a paved walkway.

I've totally neglected #StereophotoSteusday the past month or so. To make up for it, here are a few flower photos: #Stereoview #Stereophoto #ParallelView #flowers #bloomscrolling

Stereophoto of yellow flowers. The yellow almost looks a bit metallic, and the leaves are small, fat, and stubby, like succulents.

Stereophoto of a pair of bright orange flowers. Each one appears to be made up of a rosette of individual flower-shaped petals in yellow, pink, and orange hues (maybe they actually ARE tiny flowers? idk)

Photo is a bit blurry but the 3d effect still works!

Stereophoto of bright magenta flowers on a dense mass of tiny leaves. Erupting from the top of this mass is another plant, with a cluster of pale pink star-shaped flowers.

Continuing the bug friend trend, I found this striking Autumn Meadowhawk (Sympetrum vicinum) taking a break on the flowers. (He didn't let me get too close, so pardon the blurry zoom) #BugSky

A small red dragonfly (Autumn Meadowhawk) sitting on some pale pink flowers. It really was more bright red than this picture was able to capture!

Another friend-shaped invert! I *think* this is a female pied hoverfly (Scaeva pyrastri), but there are so many similar-looking species. #BugSky

A black and yellow fly, sitting with its wings outstretched. It has pale yellow markings on its abdomen that resemble a wasp's.

Some many-legged friends I met this week while camping: • Yellow garden spider (Argiope aurantia) • Ash plant bug (Tropidosteptes amoenus) • Assassin bug (unknown) • Dog-day cicada (Neotibicen canicularis) [I think] #BugSky

A yellow and black spider sitting in the middle of a large web, decorated with a zig-zag pattern down the middle.

An impossibly tiny red and gold insect. It looks like it has a yellow heart shape on its back.

A mottled brown assassin bug. It looks a little bit like a dead leaf.

An adorable green and black cicada, posing nicely for the camera. Bugs can't smile, but you know this one wants to!

And if you're curious about the tree's age:

Informational sign about the above tree:

"HOW OLD IS THIS FLOW?"

"On a 1924 expedition Robert Limbert guessed its age at 150 years, based on appearance alone. A core from this wind-buffeted limber pine gave the first scientifically-based estimate in 1954. The tree's annual growth rings proved the lava must be at least 1350 years old. But how long after the lava cooled did the tree take root? This was an unknown factor.

"More recent measurements utilizing carbon isotopes and paleomagnetic dating methods indicate the flow erupted from North Crater about 2000 years ago — much earlier than initially guessed."

The sign shows a colour photo of the tree with needles on it still, and the caption:

"The 'Triple Twist Tree' was still living in the late 1950's when this photo was taken."

Bee wasn't very happy about the impromptu shower he got when I was watering the flowers.

A small dark bee sitting on green leaves by a pink morning glory flower. Everything, bee included, is covered in droplets of water. The bee kinda resembles a drowned rat the way it's clinging to the leaf, waiting to dry out.

Traditional ink drawing of two black-cheeked lovebirds, digitally coloured. They are sitting next to eachother, being all lovey-dovey (wait, they're not doves! Lovey-parroty?). One looks a little sleepy and/or grumpy, while the other is up in the first one's face trying to show affection. Signed "Dirx" and dated 2/22/26.

Black ink drawing of a moth on white paper. Viewed from its left side, its wings are upright displaying light bands and spots on a darker base. It's got cute little feathery antennae. Signed "@DirxDraws" and "u/Dirxzilla" (old twitter and reddit handles) and dated 8/4/2020

Ink drawing of a cecropia moth that has been digitally coloured. A white, fuzzy body is accented with bright red legs, head, and markings along its abdomen.

The wings are primarily brown, with bands of white, red, black, and cream toward the outer margins. A white crescent shape is present on both the fore and aft wings.

The moth is sitting on a branch amongst some greenery, while a bright yellow-orange sunset illuminates the background.
