The space marines are the legions of the primarchs, made in their image, and in the one of the emperor, demigods, uberhumans. When there is somebody left who remmembers his teachings its them.Some of them are still from the old ages. They are seen as angels by the normal human in the lore.His Angels

And now in the year 40K his teachings mostly got forgotten, and he himself gets praised as a god. He just sitting there, a comatose corpse, somehow guiding the way for humanity. Most of his sons are either dead or lost or still on the side of the chaos.

The emperor himself is a so called Perpetual,a form of final version of a human,an uberhuman. He cannot die a natural death and hes one of the strongest psykers in the galaxy,he had other friends who were also perpetuals,and also one of the primarch wasone.The emperor was born around 8000 B.C.

Once the crusade came close to an end, half of his sons got seducted by chaos, mainly cause one of them instigated the seed of heresy. But its way more layered than that. To sum it up, some of them actually believed that these energies were indeed actual gods, and should be worshipped, like you said

To give you the shortversion, to get to his goal the emperor used warp stuff to make his 20 sons, the primarchs. He had to collect them from all over the milky way, while he lead the crusade to unify humanity which were spread all through the milky way.

its complicated. To the imperium, these beeing may be called gods, but they are really just sentient energies. In the Year 30.000 the emperor wanted to reunify the earth and the human race, and he banished all superstition and religion. Wanting to establish the "imperial truth".

lol, kinda it is, but also not at all :D Christianity itself is just a part of the seduction of the chaos gods. Chaos masqueraded as a benevolent god figure. By the time of 40k, christianity and any other old religion got whiped out, as an act to control the chaos.

Long time ago there were also the C'tan, powerful star eating beeings that were basically gods of the material space. But they got supposedely defeated and shattered into shards which are either withheld by the necrons or hidden in the galaxy.

The Warp is basically the fourth dimensions, laying below our material world, its the place where our souls are sitting, and where they will go after we die, to get eaten by these gods. The Warp gets fueled by our emotions, thoughts and beliefs, mostly negative ones cause they are the most potent.

Oh sure, it plays a lot into the lovecraftian aspect. We got the 4 chaosgods, Khorne, Slaneesh, Tzeentch, and Nurgle, they are pretty much are immaterial congregations of Emotional and psychic energies from the warp, that became sentient over the last million years.

Finished another of the Word Bearers lads, this time a Master of Executions. I primed the whole army at once in silver metallic to cheat on trim and I'm restricted on the palette so kinda just cranking through these guys. #warhammer40k #chaos40k #miniaturepainting #warhammercommunity #nerdlings

A kitbashed master of executions for the chaos faction of warhammer 40k. Silver and burgundy color scheme with green gold and purple accents. Painted in metallic acrylic and a few inks. Kitbash is an AoS chosen with bits from Nighthaunt, 40k vehicles, csm terminator and Posessed kits. The platform he's standing on is probably from the Grey Knight baby carrier but that's just my best guess. Part of an army I'm scavenging entirely from spare kits and bits in an effort to play a game of the new edition with my son for exactly zero dollars. Happy hobbying y'all!
