I do agree with this too. For some time, I've been identifying representations (and other concepts) as motifs: relatively vague, open-ended notions that accommodate open-ended families of explanations. E.g.: doi.org/10.1111/ejn....

Just discovered an argument against embodiment named "cognitive bloat": being too permissive with the constituents of cognitive systems gets you in trouble. It is defended by the same people who are infinitely permissive regarding the prior knowledge a system can have. You live and learn, I guess.

I'm recently convinced that THE question in metaphysics is whether natural organization is due to some preexisting order or it's the product of the dynamics of unorganized events/entities. Physicalism, dualism, idealism... They are answers to this question. [The right one is radical empiricism.]

Important question. We (ecopsy) think mainstream researchers neglect the *massive* amount of prior knowledge one needs to assume for a system like the one described there to just work. It is impossible to justify in naturalistic terms. And then we hear echos of dualism, and Descartes, and Kant, etc.

Random question again: If perceptual experience is based on the optimisation of an internal model (or controlled hallucination), why the optimisation process can't solve myopia, for e.g.? Myopia is a relatively simple optical issue that an optimised internal model (w/ priors) could solve. Why not?

I like the idea of the book. Indeed, ecological resonance is pretty much about it. Now, unpopular opinion: ecological psychology is not a form of anti-representationalism. I say more: representations are NOT (or, at least, should NOT be) a relevant topic within the ecological approach.

It never ceases to amaze me how angry some people in mainstream cognitive science get when one talks about non-representation/non-computation while they completely refuse to at least read something about it so they can have an actual reason to be angry that is not just "hey, normal science, bro".

My impression is we’ve lost this kind of thinking in contemporary neuroscience: that we need good theories of the brain and *behavior* to explain stuff. James, Lashley, Hebb, Tolman, Skinner, Gibson… They all agreed on that.

David Lee just died. He formulated tau/time-to-contact, the most famous bit of ecological information. He is one of the main reasons why ecological psychology is still alive. We all are indebted to him. I met him once and ended up having dinner at his place. Very cool guy! RIP
