Would be interesting to do a headcount to see how many folks don't go back to their seats after receiving at the altar rail. We moved it to before the service and, as we thought, a lot of folks started filtering in late. The only place we know we get news across is after the Peace 😔

I doubt the person asking meant it to be a compliment, unfortunately. But, could be worse - you could be the preposition police. Nobody wants to spend Sunday explaining why someone is standing "beside the altar" instead of "beside of the altar."

Curious which diocese you're in. I lead our diocesan aspirancy program and would love to know more about how the discernment process in yours operates.

Always thought it was interesting that they don't use instruments in worship because they aren't Biblical. I've been trying to find the passages about interior illumination and air conditioning.

Navigating the main drag through Pigeon Forge during summer traffic is a tougher feat than walking the Camino.

I have no idea what she would think personally. I would imagine, not seeing her ever do the things she did to glorify herself, that she would feel humbled at even being considered, and maybe even embarrassed by that level of attention.

I love Dolly and, as an East Tennesseean, saw for years the strong work she did for marginalized people and for the community. But that said, I'll be "that" guy... I'm not for adding anyone to the sanctoral calendar until the traditional 50 years post-death period of time has passed.

I used Forrest Gump in a sermon illustration for the first time. I listened to my better angels and didn't make any movie quotes with the Forrest accent.

It's a requirement in our diocese that everyone in aspirancy has a Spiritual Director. The hope is that they continue with the work through postulancy and into ordained life.

I 100% feel this. After several years of this, I changed SDs and unfortunately my new one is the same way. I wish there was a flag on profiles that says "I'm a Spiritual Director, not a Spiritual Friend."

A thought on this day of remembrance for the Caroline Divine, Jeremy Taylor: I’ve always appreciated how he could bridge the way we practice holiness and spirituality with our ordinary, everyday life. One of my favorite quotes below: ⚓

I love these. You might consider adding Ritual Notes to the stack. It's heavily Anglo-Catholic but I find a lot of good information in it. Another, William Sydnor's Prayer Book Through the Ages. Not so much rubrics focused as much of the changes with each revisiopn

Set off the church's fire alarm trying to be all holy and burn some incense in my office during Morning Prayer. How's your Saturday going? 🤪 ⚓

I appreciate FM's well-measured approach. The knee-jerk reaction of "I will not touch an AI tool for any reason" is why I have a hard time with many of the petitions being circulated today. This, with the line against generated content vs. limited/responsible use, is one I would absolutely support.

Most people remember Paul as the great missionary, but Barnabas was there from the beginning, welcoming Paul when others didn’t trust him. He traveled with him on his first missionary journey .The Church is stronger because of people like Barnabas, encouraging others and walking alongside. ⚓

My wife is still jealous that I don't have to worry about what I'm wearing on Sunday. I mean, I've got counseling sessions, sick visits, Eucharistic visits, and sermon prep, but hey, that weekly fifteen second decision of what to wear being lifted from my shoulders makes all the difference 😆

Some people say that lightning bugs, migratory swallows, or fresh cut hay are the first signs of summer. But when your mom brought these home from the grocery store, summer had officially gotten lit.

I "cruised" through my aspirancy interview day until the very last question. Leaving the last interview with my Bishop and the CTO, he asked, "What's your thoughts on sacramental theology." With my answer, I thought I was done for. They understand you don't have all the right answers at this stage.

I didn't either, but our girls did. There are several generations of folks in Oklahoma who went to our camp. The friendships that have lasted are amazing, as well as how many of them have stayed as part of the church as adults.

Was coming here to say the same thing as David. If you upload it to Notebook LM, it can create a two-person podcast, You can give it directions on the length and tone of the podcast. I've experimented on it in the past. You should give it a try - it's amazing.

The standard is for ordained clergy, but I don't know of a hard & fast rule on it. In the CoE, there are blue tippets for licensed lay leaders but that's not a practice here.

Customary, not mandated. At least, that's how I read the rubric. It is meet and right to extinguish it at the Feast of the Ascension.

The idea is to put phones away at the table and have a family conversation. The audio can be pulled off with a USB (no cloud connection). I mean, I get the idea if it's genuine (having families spend more time talking to each other), but the method is really questionable.

Anselm is a favorite saint. "Faith seeking understanding" still shapes how we do theology along with his theory of atonement. "I do not seek to understand that I may believe, but I believe in order that I may understand." Tthat gets at something crucial. Faith and reason aren't in opposition. ⚓

Every time I think the unqualified "leaders" in this administration have hit rock bottom, they impress me with their willingness to dig. "Grant this task force clear and righteous targets for violence. Let every round find its mark against the enemies of righteousness and our great nation." ⚓

Reminder that on this day, Pelagianism was declared a heresy, but still shows up in a surprising number of sermons - proof that some theological errors have very long shelf lives.

Body slamming, teargas and pepper balls: viral videos show Ice using extreme force in Chicago

This is not Belarus. This is not Venezuela. This is our country. A masked ICE agent sprayed David Black, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Chicago, directly in the face during protests outside the ICE processing facility in Broadview, Illinois. Above quote from the Rev. Chas Marks. ⚓
