someone on tumblr said it better than i could

I'm not saying be willfully ignorant. I'm not saying pretend horrible things aren't happening. I'm saying don't destroy your mental health going in-depth and cycling through horror after horror on your phone. I'm saying there is no virtue in making yourself experience other people's traumas because mere awareness is not activism. you inflicting suffering on yourself is not activism.
doomscrolling is literally sapping your energy and focus away from doing anything useful to help other people. you can burn yourself out without ever lifting a finger by exposing yourself to all the bad news in the world and who does that help? no one.

i think its good that bluesky is boring and you dont want to scroll through it too much because you're not supposed to waste your day away scrolling on social media when you could be using the computer to play & draw & learn before the corporations destroy the rest of the internet. tick tock

Australia's humpback whales are doing so well that their population is expected to reach carrying capacity and plateau in the near future--they have not just reached but exceeded pre-whaling numbers. For this to happen with such a long-lived, slow-reproducing species is near miraculous. #goodnews

abc.net.au

These whales were hunted to 150 individuals. Now there are 50,000 of them

Once hunted almost to extinction, the population of humpback whales currently migrating down Australia's east coast has bounced back and is now greater than before whaling.

I’ve had several people tell me recently that they feel like they can’t post their stories online because they’re terrified of people copying them, and that… feels strange, to me. I’ve never been interested in copying people, I’m too into my own brain worms and I know many others are the same

This is my master copy it needed some adjustments. I needed to true some of the pattern pieces. I added a tab for a key chain, and I added seam allowances. I'm transferring it to a new master copy though. #art #feltart #skyrim #tesv #fanart You can see my prototype in another post. Coming soon...

Your art deserves a repost. Keeping up with algorithms like IG is garbage. We aren't ment to churn out art like a factory or churn it out like a commodity that will be forgotten for the next new thing. What you create matters. Repost your work. ♥️ #artistcommunity

Been a year. Time to repost this.

YOUR PORTFOLIO CRIT
THINGS I'D TELL YOU IF I WERE LOOKING AT YOUR WORK IN PERSON
1 Violating the 180 degree rule makes this sequence hard to follow
2 A few more incidental overlaps will make this foreshortening clearer
3 Symmetrical compositions with a character dead center imply an important moment. Don't draw every panel like that?
4 This __ looks kind of fake. Take the time to look at reference instead of just making it up
5 An establishing shot will help the reader understand where this takes place.
6 Find a life-drawing session to attend, or practice from photos online.
7 Show these pages to someone who doesn't know the story and ask them to tell the story back to you.
8. Nudge this part over a bit to eliminate that tangency.
9 You flattened out the depth by rendering the foreground, middle ground, & background with the same values. Create depth and direct the eye by organizing them into overlapping planes of light & dark.
10 there are better ways to use your time than rendering every brick.
11 these characters look like they're floating (or falling). Draw figures and bg from the same eye level.
12 Unless this will be a wordless comic, leave more room for the lettering

Old sketches of Hampton from my comic, Sink or Swim. Funny to think 2022 & 23 as old... 25's half over too. Damn.

I've just spent like an hour sketching a random gardener that came across youtube shorts. And it just hit me that I don't have the balls to show it to him (not that I'd know how either, since there aren't any socials linked) so... wtf am I doing? 😅
