I watched your music videos on YT. Very good. I like you and your wife's attitude and sense of humour, and the songs are all catchy.

I'm not sure how it works exactly but there's something in what you say. I don't know if it's the universe having your back, but it's possible to make things happen, for sure, by force of will or something.

No doubt you're right, but I don't even know what the dispute is about. I've ignored it because I'm just not interested in it.

I'm not interested in arguing with people about politics. I think it's pointless. I hate both the left and the right, for different reasons.

There's nothing like creating. There's an exhilaration when you crack something – when the pieces fall into place and everything comes together. When it doesn't come together it can be incredibly frustrating.

It's weird. I've never been interested in playing games, nor in watching films or TV. I did watch TV in the past, when I was young, but I don't now. The same with films. Never really that interested, but I have of course seen many films, but not recent ones.

My wife kept saying she loves Severance, so I agreed to watch a couple of episodes, but I hated it. She said it's all about the characters and how they interact and the questions it throws up. But I'm not interested in the characters. I felt the time I spent watching it was wasted. I don't watch TV.

Most people can't be bothered. They only follow other accounts because they have some idea that it will help them gain followers themselves. It's all grift and basically a wasteland of pointlessness. I hate it. I don't know why I even come here, and most of the time I don't.

I don't use Spotify I'm afraid. I know I could download it but do you have to pay to use it? I'm not interested in paying for something like that. I don't really listen to music that much. I'll listen to things on YouTube, and also Bandcamp to an extent. But mostly I prefer creating things myself.

I'm very much behind the curve. I hadn't appreciated until now that things have moved on to this extent with mobile music. I wouldn't try to use Koala to make finished tracks, but it's perfect for me in terms of making random samples I can import elsewhere, and I find the interface quite pleasant.

I haven't tried your app yet and maybe the concept you have for it is different to that of Koala, because you say that you think of yours as being primarily a toy for practice purposes. In my case, I downloaded Koala and it's bloody good. I can see myself using it quite a bit to make samples.

Is it connected with the 'New Year'? I felt gloomy yesterday. I've never liked NYE and I've never liked January. December is nice to me, and it's nothing to do with Christmas, because I don't like Christmas either. December just feels different. The 'New Year' means you have to do things.

I've joined many social media sites in my time, but never seem to get to grips with them. I got into Mastodon for a short time (I said on someone's post that I hated the Alesis HR16 drum machine, and Anton Newcombe replied saying he owns 4 of them!), but then got bored. I'm bored with Bluesky now.

Thanks, I will download it to try it, for sure. I'm now also interested in the Koala Sampler app, which does do what I enquired about. I'd not heard of it before. Considering that it's free, or almost free, it seems too good to be true.

It seems as if it would be interesting to use. I'd be tempted to make things with it to use as samples, but I don't see any facility for exporting anything (audio) from it. Is that something that could feasibly be added?

I like it. Good tempo, chunky sound. I like the minimal beat, just BD and HH.

I love turning that corner. When that happens, after I've been wrestling with something, sometimes for far too long, I always say to my wife, "I've cracked it." It really is like unlocking a safe, with all the jewels inside.

I was guilty of this. I gave out bland praise to someone. Later, I thought I hadn't been forthcoming enough, but was then too critical. I wish I could have hit the right note in the first place.

It's weird. Sometimes it sounds great the night before, but rubbish the next day. But then sometimes it sounds like rubbish the night before, but great the next day. What you want is for it to always sound great, whenever you hear it. And not too fast and not too slow as well. That's another thing.

I agree with you. I don't watch modern films and TV at all, and definitely a part of it is that I HATE the horrible, intrusive orchestral music. I also hate the posters, which always have the faces of the actors, in a line. And of course every review is 4 stars, but it's all garbage.

Interesting. I'll have to look into this. I'd been tempted by the advertising for the latest generation Scarlett. I'm still using an ancient Audiophile 24/96 PCI card. It has no mic inputs, just line in/out and SPDIF in/out. That's one thing I do need: SPDIF input (I have a lot of old DAT tapes).

They are understandably happy. Forced to work for the Germans for years, living in no doubt fairly harsh conditions, but also running the risk of being killed in the massive indiscriminate bombing raids of the Allies. But somehow they survived and were looking forward to getting on with their lives.

There's one thing I would like to do, but it seems it's impossible. That's to get samples off my old Casio FZ floppy disks and load them into PC software. It seems no PC disk drive will read a Casio disk. I would also like to load Atari ST disks on a PC. I wonder if that's possible.

I should think the battery could be replaced but it's not worth the bother to me. I don't use it. I use an Arturia mini kbd to input MIDI to various plugins.

Incidentally, I still have my DX11, but never use it. The last time I turned it on, about ten years ago or more, the battery had run out and it was outputting randomised FM noises rather than the stored patches. I did think I could maybe sample some of the noises but I've not got round to it.

Oh, now I'm confused. I know LatelyBass only as a preset on the TX81Z, which I was under the impression was the same architecture as the DX11 (4 operators, I thought). Certainly there was a preset on the DX11 that sounded similar to that TX81Z patch, as did SolidBass on the FB01.

Lately bass is a great sound. I had a DX11 and it was called something different. I also had an FB01 where it's called Solid bass but is a very similar sound. As to what makes it a great sound, maybe it's very manageable. It's warm but not over-boomy, and it's easy to make it more punchy and raspy.

I like your remark that the melodies are just there. I do hear melodies in my head. A lot of it has to be regurgitation of things one has heard. And also previously written. I find I unwittingly repeat melodies, and then I have to alter them to be at least slightly different to the ones from before.

You mean from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia? That would have been a delicate matter for the Western Allies at this time. Our wonderful Soviet allies, who just happened to have annexed three sovereign states. You couldn't very well force those people to go.

Perhaps not. They seem cheerful. The Cossacks who were sent back from Austria knew what lay in store for them. These people seem happy to be going back and are not under heavy armed guard. Then again, Stalin was harsh on those who even just surrendered to the Germans, let alone joined up with them.

Ah, you answered my question. Could they have been people, such as Ukrainians and Cossacks, who fought for the Germans?

The photos are an amazing window into a time of massive chaos and upheaval after nearly six years of war. Do you think these people being sent back to Russia might in some cases have been in big trouble when they got there?

I've not been tempted by anything. A lot of it seems to be variations of the same thing: saturation, distortion, tape simulation, 'resonance suppression' etc. etc. I've already got so many plugins I never use that it seems silly to spend more. Most of what I have is free or very low-cost anyway.

I bought Supertone Clear when it came out last year and that does a good job of cleaning up speech. But these things have come on by leaps and bounds. The free separation tools in the latest version of Audacity seem about the same standard. I'll also have to look into the thing you've mentioned.

I guess it depends on the track. I like both slower and faster. The sweet spot for me tends to be between 122 and 126, something like that.

How annoying. I had a similar issue once when I transferred some old DAT tapes recorded at 48kHz. Somehow or other they got recorded via SPDIF at 44.1 and later I thought to myself that I didn't remember certain tracks being so slow.

Some people have very good ears and can tell the difference with SOME (not all) things. I'm not one of them, so I just get on with it and try to make the sound as good as it can be, within the limitations of my own perception. A good song badly recorded is better than a bad song perfectly recorded.
