I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever. #books #reading #booksky #poetry

A poem by Langston Hughes titled "Tired". It reads as the following:

"I am so tired of waiting,
Aren't you,
For the world to become good
And beautiful and kind?
Let us take a knife
And cut the world in two --
And see what worms are eating
At the rind."

As head mod I just want to say thank you directly! It's important to me that a zine's branding reflects the character. Mel carries herself with elegance and is shown to be quite meticulous so any zine dedicated to her had to match that energy imo. I'm happy that we've succeeded in that so far. 💛✨

it’s always a lovely day when people realize weirdos are the backbone of any fandom and trying to make everyone “normal” kills everything enjoyable about it. fandom wouldn’t exist if people could be normal about things.

in my time here on bluesky, i've been very fortunate to have met @armoralor.bsky.social who has been an ally to many black fans on here - including myself. they have consistently spoken about racism, specifically misogynoir when others ignore our voices, with no hesitation. cont.

Last thing I'll say on this: a lot of people need to reflect and take a look around at their 'fandom friends' - who speaks up and who sits on the sidelines. A lot of people tell on themselves by claiming that racism against a fictional character has no reflection on real life when it does.

Yesterday a popular jv artist openly mocked a Black woman for speaking out on racist tropes and white washing. Multiple Arcane fans on here liked the post, laughed along, and vowed to do more of what regularly causes Black fans discomfort, just to spite them. No one has apologized.

Contributor Bio: There is always more to the eye than we can see with Mel and that is something I appreciated right from the start and still do whenever we learn new bits and pieces of her. Just the right amount of mysterious to lure me in. Her upbringing, her family, how big her heart is and how much of her rebellion (against her mother) is rooted in that. That she is much more than just a politician. Her relationship with her mother and how difficult it is to not meet your mothers expectations yet be all she sees. The complicated back and forth. How it hurts deep down to be a mothers daughter at times. But despite all the hardships she stays true to herself. She doesn't lose her empathy, doesn't think of herself as weak but instead sees strength in it. Also love me some gold!

I took a course with one of Arcane's senior character designers and he passed on some insights from Mel's initial character designer. Needless to say, it was incredible to learn how much thought and consideration went into her design. I love the way she carries herself and that she rules the city with sharpness but also genuine care for her people.
