#dimileth | #FE3H | #fic another little dimileth drabble for #DimiParty2025 💙 Dimitri passes his birthday in the wilds of Faerghus...

When the snow falls, he can almost believe he sees her.

It swirls, sparkling in the moonlight. The shape of a woman, more beautiful than the goddess herself.

She does not stay. She never does.

She’s dead.

He sits beneath the shelter of a tree and watches, despite himself. Pathetic. She is dead. She does not haunt him. Does not care.

The snow shimmers, hand outstretched.

But when he reaches back she melts away, dancing out of reach.

Her hands, so cold. So far. So false. She’s dead.

Yet still he cannot look away.

Shamelessly stealing vannen's idea of a little #dimileth drabble for #dimiparty2025 Putting the blonde man in a good situation for once

It would take several days to get back to the academy from Gronder, but the travel hadn’t dimmed the victorious Blue Lions’ exuberance in the slightest. A wistful smile played on Dimitri’s face as he watched Ashe and Annette pull Dedue away from his self-imposed cooking duty and into their circle, laughing as they danced around the campfire.
Dimitri sat apart, but for once, it wasn’t to brood in his dark thoughts alone. Next to him, the light of the fire flickered across the professor’s face, alternately highlighting her wide eyes, her glossy hair, her full lips that had finally learned to smile...
Normally, shame or propriety forced him to avert his eyes quickly. Or his ghosts would scold him for his distraction. But just this once, he let his gaze linger on her. The dead had been strangely silent as of late. Perhaps he should have felt guilty for neglecting them, but the warm comfort of the professor’s presence soothed his conscience.
So many unlikely coincidences had aligned to bring them together that he was tempted to think it was fate.

“Professor, forgive my impertinence, but there is something I have been wondering for a while...”
She turned to him and tilted her head, accepting and open, like she always was.
“Why did you choose to lead the Blue Lions? I was surprised, given how highly sought after you were by all the house leaders. Edelgard in particular was quite... persistent.”
She honored him with a subtle smile. The mesmerizing sight was becoming more and more common. Still, his heart thumped so hard he could hear it in his ears, not yet accustomed to the radiant warmth of her smile.
He doubted it ever would be.
“The other colors clashed with my hair,” she replied.
He snorted in disbelief. “Surely not!”
“It’s true. I didn’t realize what an important decision it was back then. My emotions were...”

"Yes, I remember.” It was sometimes hard to believe the woman next to him was the same mercenary he’d met in Remire. In the darkness, a surge of boldness coursed through him, and the dangerous question that burned on his tongue tumbled out. “Now that you know, would you... choose us again?”
She truly surprised him then, placing a warm hand over his bloodstained, scarred one.
“I’m right where I want to be, Dimitri.”
“I—” he sputtered, jaw hanging slack, unable to form any further words. The unguarded yearning he felt was surely written all over his face as he stared back at her.
“Besides,” she added, bumping her shoulder into his playfully. “Turns out, the professors don’t even wear the class colors.”

#dimileth | #hopes | #fic for #DimiParty2025 - Dimitri and Byleth partake in a definitely real kingdom tradition for his birthday 😘 Prompt: Celebration

Dimitri had to be dreaming.

He touched his lips, wide eyes fixed on the woman before him. The Ashen Demon—no, Byleth—stared back, impassive. As if she hadn’t just…

Without a word of explanation, she turned to leave.

“Wait!” Dimitri’s face was burning, hot enough that he could no longer feel the winter’s chill. “I—you…why did you…?”

Byleth blinked slowly. “Sylvain said it was a kingdom tradition. To kiss people on their birthday.”

Of course. Of course that man was to blame.

Byleth studied his expression, her mouth curving into an adorable pout. “You look upset. Did I do it wrong?”

“No!” Dimitri shouted. Loud. Too loud. Still, he couldn’t let such a misunderstanding persist. “It was…very nice. Enjoyable, even. I mean—that is. Not that I have anything to compare it to! But you were very….well…”

As Byleth listened to his rambling, he could have sworn her cool eyes softened. The sight was enough to still his frantic words.

“I don’t know when I was born,” Byleth stated. Her voice sounded indifferent, but there was something about her eyes…

“Then I suppose I must kiss you everyday, just in case,” Dimitri’s foolish mouth said before his thoughts could catch up. What was he doing? It wasn’t even a real tradition! He snapped his jaw shut in a panic, but it was too late. Byleth would surely scold him for his presumption, or slap him, or walk away with disgust in her heart, or—

“Yes,” Byleth said with a nod. She closed the distance between them in an instant, tilting her head back expectantly. “You can start today.”

Well. Who was he to deny her command?

As their lips pressed together a second time, Dimitri realized he couldn’t remember the last time his birthday had tasted so sweet.
