I have never been able to unsee my mom's face as I came running up the driveway yelling for her, how she had a huge smile ready to take us out, and how quickly it turned to shock and worry when she saw my face.

I had no idea my mom had plans set, which is why my grandpa was not taking us to see our friends, but I threw a fit and begged until he said fine and took us. I had no way of knowing my brother would not make it back home.

Today is the anniversary of the darkest moment of my life; it is the day I had to watch my brother die on the road while being unable to do anything to save him, the day I developed my fear of driving, and the day I am pretty sure I truly lost my mom because I am certain she blamed me.
