Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 07/05/2026Meanwhile Bruno and Brunette are thriving. I haven't seen any babies yet this year but I don't really know what is going on in that cave. (I don't even know which one is Bruno and which one is Brunette) Happy little critters tho. 🐸 0100
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 07/05/2026@pogue.omg.lol A few frog eggs avoided getting eaten by newts. This lucky tadpole is about to sprout legs. They will burst thru his skin fully formed and his tail will shrink and then he's a frog. He's tiny. 🐸 0132
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 17/03/2026That handsome buck from last fall is back now, looking a bit worse for wear. He still has his harem of four ladies so I assume he won all his fights. Hopefully the girls are all pregnant. #PNW #photography #deer #alphamale 060

Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 24/02/2026Poor Bruno! His true love is hiding from him. Brunette pops her head up for a gulps of air when he isn't looking. #herps #newts 🦎 0111
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 04/02/2026Another baby newt has lost his gills and started breathing air through his tiny lungs. Young newts may spend several years wandering around in the forest before returning to the water to breed. #herps 🦎 0162
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 29/01/2026Bruno and Brunette are getting lovey-dovey again. These two reproduce prolifically. #herps 🦎 0134

Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 18/01/2026Same species from the same tiny pond, but this frog looks completely different. I raised him from a tadpole and he refused to leave when I tried to let him go last year. 🐸 071
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 18/01/2026Morbidly obese tree frog taking a bath. She will be leaving captivity soon to breed in the pond. I'm sure she will attract lots of boyfriends because she is thicc. #frog #herps 🐸 3223
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 16/01/2026Look how precious this baby newt is! I don't usually handle them but today is moving day. He is ready to get out of the water and walk on land. I am putting him in the isopod tank. #herps #newt 🦎 1294
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 12/01/2026This baby newt has recently lost his gills and now he is breathing with his little lungs. I will move him to a new habitat soon. When all the baby newts have left the water, I will put the parents back in the tank to produce more baby newts. #herps #newt 🦎 0213

Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 22/10/2025The sky above the Ridgefield wildlife refuge is agitated by the approaching atmospheric river. After the rains come, the fields turn into shallow lakes inhabited by massive flocks of waterfowl. Today I saw about a dozen sandhill cranes, six swans and one eagle. #pnw #photography #weather #birds 1130
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 21/10/2025A lot of drama in my yard today. There's a buck wandering around being horny and a small flock of does trying to avoid him. #nature #photography #pnw 0172
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 27/09/2025I see no ships at the grain port in Longview. That's sad. It's harvest time, and the grain elevator should be busy. Mt. St. Helens in the background currently has no snow, but don't worry, we are not having a drought. It's been an excellent growing season. #pnw #photography 1101

Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 28/08/2025Add dry ingredients to moist ingredients until you have a thick dough. There should be a little bit of flour left. Stir in1/3 cup raisins and 3/4 cup pecans. Drop spoonfuls of dough into the flour, roll into a ball, and flatten slightly. Bake 12-15 minutes. Use the leftover flour on the zucchini. 000
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 28/08/2025Stir the flours together with a fork In another bowl, cream together: 3/4 cup butter at room temp. 1 tsp almond extract (or vanilla) 1 egg 1/4 cup sugar 1/2 cup milk (you may add more later) Add in 3/4 cups oats 1 tsp baking powder Notice I am toasting the pecans in the toaster oven (optional). 100
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 28/08/2025Preheat oven to 350 Please make reasonable substitutions if you are sensitive. For example, you can use almond milk and coconut oil for milk and butter. You will need 3 cups flour. I used 1 cup each cassava, millet and potato starch. You may substitute any flour combination that works for you. 100

Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 09/08/2025Are they cute? These brothers are mountain barn cats. They patrol the forest and keep pests away, including large predators. They are 9 years old, gray and battle scarred, with no desire to retire and live in the house. They threaten to kill me every time I suggest it. Meet Marv and Greebo. #cats 0192
Diana Gruber @digruber.bsky.social · 05/08/2025At 3 weeks old, the baby newts are still transparent, but they are starting to develop their characteristic red bellies, an important defensive signal that lets predators know they are poisonous. #herps #pondlife 0184
