At what point is it collectively understood and admitted that Bethesda Softworks has simply bled too many veterans involved in making the games we love, and that whatever comes next, has just as good of odds as being something fun as it does of being a dud? Honestly the expectations could kill.

I really liked Episode 1 (I did in fact buy it to play on stream for a friend), honestly I think Episode 0's drop was just too severe for where it was placed. Great effect but if I didn't have someone to share it with I wouldn't've gone back.

aka, what are you gaining from this design choice. Achieving your vision/desires is obviously valid, but I already conjure a very certain type of game in my mind when I hear it has such a system. If yours is against mold you'll need to shoulder-in early to overtake stereotyping.

Indeed, I think the simpler you make them the better it could flow. There's more than one way to make it break down. But if you ensure that the vast majority have nothing unique about them and you just tabulate the total once then any additions later, it's not too bad. Question is the gains.

Also, assuming gear pools or can pool common stat changes, where is that recorded? This paperdoll makes lots of sense for a video game with tooltips, but if I have a full list of accessories adjusting my stats and giving me abilities surely I now need another page to write that down on?

How substantively is this system about gear and how frequently are changes expected to occur/how meaningful are they?

Valid; d100 made it pretty straightforward cos you could embed locational randomization. Or roll another d10.

No problem, I'd also look into games like WFRP 2e/4e where you have plenty of hit locations impacted by armour worn buuuut you don't have to play dress-up on every slot cos most are just covered by your armour suit generically and can deviate at your preference.

spills out of control if you don't do WFRP style "it's a leather suit so it coats all these location levels" and then do sliiight deviations from there.

Sidenote aesop related to this: I wrote my first game with upper/lower body slots + helmet slot across 3 layers of depth for yes, 9 potential pieces of equipment. PCs it was a headache once, but my god, designing NPCs and always having to dress them...! And I designed the game. It rapidly

It's a very fascinating and under-utilized aspect of the (implied) setting that I think gives WWN a little more juice than average in its sphere.

I'd like to emphasize the "if his account is to be believed" part. This could just be damcon or him lying, banking on the victim never contradicting him.

It's more so that the basic conceit (which is spoiled in marketing material I'm sure I just forgot about, been putting off playing it for months) is just not for me.

Sorry but there's basically no saving it; I loved everything about the game up until the reveal and then decided immediately I would drop it. I was streaming it to someone literally offering to buy the next episodes for me. I was hype to keep going up until then.

Unless I deeply misunderstood the entire ending then no the rather intractable issue here is the protagonist.

Just finished episode 0 "of the Devil," and I love this game on pretty much level except the fundamental twist which is inertia killing enough for me that I have basically just abandoned the concept of playing more.
